Lol, scientists sometimes come across strange things accidentally in their studies, and sometimes they have a sense of humor and test or build things that would seem weird. It's all stuff that's real, but stuff that most wouldn't see elsewhere.

A lot of these topics, like some of the unusual molecular 'machines' (like the 'world's smallest car'), are just breakthroughs implemented as tests for technology and knowledge to possibly be important later on. As such though, some of it is fairly amusing.

With a lot of the new science breakthroughs, it is good to be skeptical because things are frequently changing as more is discovered. However, Livescience (and Space.Com with which it is affiliated) does not make up its articles.
