If you're in the Desert already, it's easier just to do the ascension missions and ascend up to Droknar's Forge. It also saves you the 2k for when you need new armor.

But if you got a run to the Desert and your last armor set came from the Lion's Arch area, or before, having Droknar's armor would make ascension much easier for you. Especially when the NPCs are programmed to attack a monk primary first.

If you do get that run to Droknar's, I suggest finishing the storyline you skipped or got run past. Mainly because it's a lot of fun and you get to learn how to use your skills and you get to learn more skills! I believe 100% of all skill quests are given to you before you ascend (in the Desert.) And as some have come to realize, buying skills becomes more and more expensive.
