Since I know you've played RS, I'll kind of compare the differences to that. There's much more of an emphasis on combat in GW compared to RS. But it's not really intended to be the type of game you can finish by yourself, no matter how strong you are you'll get overwhelmed by yourself during quests and missions. There's a heavy emphasis on both strategy and teamwork if you want to win. Of course you can take along computer-controlled teammates, but where's the fun in that?

A big difference is that outside of towns, you never run into other players. You can join and create parties in towns, but outside it's you and your party against whatever the monsters and enemies can throw at you. Basically your team has their own individual copy of the game map to play in, so you're guaranteed not to have to wait for a boss spawn for a quest, or anything of that sort.
You pick one of 6 classes (Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Elementalist, Necromancer and Mesmer), each of which has their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as a set of different skills, weapons, armours, stats, etc. You then pick a 'secondary class', that gives you access to that classes skills and most of their stats, but you're still stuck in the armour of your primary class (as well as a special stat unique to each primary class). As an example, I'm a Warrior Monk. I'm best as a warrior, with higher armour and low energy (mana), but I also have access to the support abilities of the Monk. No one class can do everything, and you need a diverse group in order to defeat most challenges. It really doesn't take very long for you to reach the maximum level, this game isn't about spending countless hours fighting a group of monsters over and over for experience. It's about improving your skills and your co-operation with others in order to succeed, and devising stronger combinations of skills and stats (builds) in order to win. For those that do enjoy working at a goal, you could always try to 'unlock' all of the weapons, runes, skills, etc. for PvP, or to try to save up for some of the luxury armour.
Unlike a lot of other MMORPGs, GW actually has an ongoing storyline, as well as the random little quests that people give you, there are 'Missions'. These are much bigger quests in their own areas, usually involving a number of objectives and advancing the storyline in some way.
I don't really play it much, but there's a fairly good PvP mode, lots of team battles and such. You can sign up for a quick match with randomly selected groups, or gather together an elite team to storm your way up to the Hall of Heroes and gain the favor of the gods for your region.
As you probably know, the game doesn't have any fees. To compensate for that, every 6 months or so they're planning to release an expansion to the game, with extra chapters to the storyline, extra classes, areas, items, etc. You'll have to buy these if you want the new stuff, but they're optional and you can still play with people that have the expansions provided they go back to earlier areas of the game you have access to. The first expansion is going to be released at about the end of April, and is called Guild Wars: Factions.
That's all I can think of right now, if you have any more specific questions then feel free to ask. I hope you decide to get it, it's a really fun game and we'd love to have you in the guild.

Yeah, any more questions would be appreciated, once we get enough questions/feedback we could pin our own mini FAQ up to to explain about it.

Just note that the guild applies to all characters you make, so if you make an alt character after the invitation, you'll be known as;
Alt. Character
(also Invited Character)
After you're invited, pressing G would bring up the guild menu where you can accept the invite.

Err, sort of an odd question, but is having a last name to your character needed? I was just looking through the member list and noticed practically all of them had a last name.

Also glad to hear that you're planning to get it Draggy, the more the merrier. Yeah, you need two names, and you can't use numbers within the name. I guess it's to try to get people to make names that are a bit more... RPish.
I'll be on tomorrow, so if you haven't already been sent a guild invite I'll send one over your way then. I can understand why you'd fill up your slots so fast, it's fun to try out a few different combinations of classes.

It might be a good idea to stick with one character for a while though once you know what kind of class you want to play as, otherwise it could take you a while to get very far in the game if you're splitting your time four ways.

I can't believe I'm still coming up with questions, hehe, but can you delete characters? Like say you have filled out your slots and want to start a new one by deleting one of the guys you have?

And don't worry about asking questions! Questions and answers give you a good understanding of the game!

Oh and Draggy... if you're a Warrior, there's Dragon Armour.

^^ Thanks Ayumi, you rock!! ^^
How many five-year-olds could you take in a fight?
Red Carnation, Hibiscus. Spiderflower. White Violet... Peony?
