So, I went away for a while since I had work to do, and came back to check on the bot. No one was in the room, but there was some very obvious activity in #seedchat before I returned.

I don't have the exact log, but this is what it looked like (and "SeeD" is referring to any newcomer):

Wish I had been there to take a part in the chat.

Really, lol, the chat will be empty if people sign out instantly after seeing an empty chat. If everyone does this no one will be there unless two people sign on simultaneously. It's ok to sign in and idle a little bit, since then you can catch others as they sign on.
Don't sign into the chat at a random time and expect it to be populated, but if a notice is posted in the open asking for people to sign into the chat, members will almost always come. Just have a little patience, and all those join messages won't be followed by swift quit messages. In a little time it may even become crowded.

This also includes "checking up on the chat to see if anyone's there". Just idle in the chat. If everyone either checks once or keeps signing in and out, as I said, for anyone to be there, at least two will need to sign on simultaneously by chance. Just give it a little time, and if a notice is posted, you usually won't need to wait much more than ten minutes.

And don't feel funny about posting a thread asking people to join the chat. Just... if you post the notice and sign in to be a part of it, don't do what all of those people did last night or your chat probably won't happen.
