Ahh, i've been searching for it for a few hours, and I couldnt find a specific 'Mech that was 25 tons and was the first 'Mech... But the closest i could find was the Wildcats thingy.
The DSC Armory's first entry into the Battlemech industry
came in 3014 with the WCT-2C Wildcat-25 tons

First BATTLEMech in the BattleTech universe was indeed the Terran Hegemony's 100 ton Mackie, it's debute was against what looks like a platoon of "aincent" Merkava tanks that had been retrofitted for remote piloting - BattleMech armour is stated to be able to stop weaponry capable of penetrating 333 mm (a third of a meter of hardened steel) of armour...
the debute was in 2439 or 2349 (i keep getting the numbers out of order)
there may have been a 25 ton utility mech as the utility mechs were in existance IIRC 100 years earlier, however no utility mechs from that early have been published
the Commando was iirc the Lyran Commonwealths first battlemech, and developed after the Lyran Commonwealth stole battlmech technology from the terran hegemony
