my comp has no graphics card, so this demo is extremely slow, and ships look like some kind of figure-8 when they are moving around.
still, its pretty good, probably one of the better games i've played in the past year, besides 5 minutes of Halo 3 multiplayer in one of my school's art rooms. it had a projector in it, and some other students brought the stuff.
anyway, what graphics card would you all suggest? I'm pretty sure that my comp has PCI slots.
and, can any other proccesser fit in the slot for an AMD 64? i want to see if i get can the speed up a bit.

I don't know about your demo, but you have a processor that fits in an AM2 socket.

It's more processor heavy than graphics, calculating the AI and missile projections for 20,000 units takes a bit of processing

Perhaps, but the demo requires 512 MB of graphics space i don't have.
i also want to get the newest version of the game, but i'll do that after i get my graphics card.

sorry about the double post, but i failed to mention that its an amd athlon 64, incase it makes a difference.
I'm doing some research now, plus i have a neighbor who is an expert computer builder, i might ask him about some stuff i might want to throw in this box.
and he's into supcom too, so yay, i've got someone who can really help, and just 2 doors away.

hmm, last night i found out i use socket 939, but it was unclear. not even the AMD website really helped.
and price is another factor, i know i can get anything that is under say $70, but being in highschool and not being quite old enough to squeeze money out of stage crew, i got no cash beyond those $70.

I played last year with a Geforce 7800GT and a 4600+ which is about the max for 939, about an hour into matches the unit count got far too much and made it crawl so not much point upgrading.
Intel's Q6600 would probably best with its meaty 4 cores

hm... my neighbor builds gaming computers for people, but the ones he buids are expensive and i don't know if i would have to pay him for it all. plus there is the problem that in my house we have 3 active computers, and a bunch of old ones that are inactive or taken apart all over the place, so...
