As most (if not all of you) have heard, Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray this morning (approximately 12 hours ago as of this posting, since I'm too lazy to convert) off Australia's Great Barrier Reef coast while filming for his daughter Bindi's upcoming television series. There is a thread in the World News part of the forums, I just thought it would be worthwhile having something where it's liable to get a lot of attention.

It's amazing how normally so passive a creature could kill such a well-known person (this marks only the 3rd death by a stingray in Australia, to my knowledge).

Condolences to his family, particularly his children.

Feed the plushie!
(Rayquaza plushie? WTF? It doesn't look anything like the other plushies!)

Through our bleeding we are one.

The reason he died was not because the stingray was poisonous.

The stingray got a lucky (or unlucky?) shot and hit Steve in the heart.

Oh..>.<;

My prayers go out to his family..

Eh..no matter how crazy he was, I always respected him for his bravery and attitude.. he loved his daughter a whole lot.. I hope Terry will be okay..I know she was always terribly worried about him with all the things he does, and I would be too, lol..

The way he died doesn't surprise me too much though.

Let's all give a "Crikey" in memory. cry.gif

Very sad.
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

I don't think his kid was much older than a year.

RIP Steve. Good luck in the next life.

In GW, a group of people were gathering around a fountain in Ascalon and bowing their heads, with an occasional "Crikey, you'll be missed", in commemoration or something for Steve Irwin.

but smile when you see one tumbling down the stairs.

I heard about it when at my friend's house this evening. It's sad that such a thing had to happen to him.
