Of course, most will probably want to use their characters, but it's fine if someone wants to start a hypothetical battle. Such battles can involve fake characters with whatever stats are agreed upon, and they can also involve completely roleplayed situations. That's right, you don't even need to go by the rules, but unless it's stated initially in a thread all battles utilize the official rules.

This means that members can come in and interact in DarkStorm before they consider creating their first characters. Every roleplayer is welcome... Just please at least become a little familiar with the plot and the skills, this is still a DarkStorm-related forum even if it allows open roleplaying.

Also, even the ancient Colosseums allowed naval battles, we're taking this a step ahead and allowing even more than that... Indeed, you can conduct structural, mounted, naval, aerial, or even space battles if you wish. There are also rumors of planar battles... ...but such a means has not yet been discovered.
