Well, that was fun... there are probably a ton of spelling or grammar errors, so bear with me. Expect sequels!

QUOTE
Prologue: The Great Destruction

“Lorkale to Ensign Varel, come in.”

“Ensign Varel here, go ahead, captain.”

“Discontinue your flight drills and return to the ship. We have an emergency assignment to brief you on in conference room four.”

“Roger that, disengaging and returning to the Infurion. Veral, out.”

Ensign Atanar Veral was a tall, slender Aphorite starship pilot fresh out of the academy. He was a gifted pilot, having graduated at the top of his class and received top marks in tactical maneuvering. His father was a Vice Admiral in the Aphorite Navy, and was killed in combat at the hands of the Karlorons. Veral became a pilot in hopes of avenging his father’s death by destroying the Karlorons and bringing peace to this sector of the galaxy.

“Finally, my first assignment! I’m sick of all these tedious inspections and flight drills. I can’t wait to get into some real action!”

Veral maneuvers his ghost-class starfighter into the docking bay of the Infurion, a power Aphorite starship. He docks his ship and makes his way to conference room two, where he finds there entire collection of starship pilots on the ship. He takes a seat just as the briefing begins. Captain Lorkale takes her position at the podium and addresses the pilots.

“Men, I have some horrible news. Operation “End Game” will not commence as planned.”

The room erupted into whispers as the pilots were shocked and disappointed. Operation End Game was to be the final assault on Qaruxx, the Karloron homeworld. The Aphorite and Corrorian fleets have been amassing in preparation for the fight that would end the war. Veral had no clue as to why this was cancelled.

“Silence, please! As you know, the invasion was supposed to begin tomorrow, but the Corrorians have turned coat and lain siege to our homeworld! Even now, a large blockade of Corroria’s strongest starships circles our home. We are already en route to the Regulus system and will engage the Corrorian Starfleet.”

A holographic star map displays above the conference table depicting the locations of the enemy fleet in orbit around the Aphorite homeworld. Many more starships arrive from one corner of the screen and begin engaging the other fleet in simulated battle as captain Lorkale briefs the crew on the battle plan. A half hour passes and the captain sums up her strategy.

“As long as we do our job and take out the Corrorian Destroyer Phalanx, then we have a chance at winning this battle. The odds are against us, but I know we can pull through. Radio silence will begin in 1 hour and will not be broken until the battle stars in approximately 4 hours from radio silence. We do not know exactly what the Corrorians are after, but we aren’t taking any chances. We have begun transferring the Aphorite civilian population to planet Eridaan, in the Epsilon Eridani system. The battle will commence in 5 hours. You are to report to your ships two hours before then for pre-flight prep. Use the remaining three hours to get all your affairs in order. That is all. I wish you all luck in the upcoming battle. May Guane help us.”

Veral was stunned by the news, and began worrying about his mother back home. When his three hours were up, he made his way to his starfighter. The Corrorians tend to rely heavily on plasma-type weaponry, so he decided to equip plasma shields and some deuterium plating for added defense. Veral selected a basic array of ion, particle, and long-wavelength laser weapons. He wanted to equip more powerful versions of these weapons, but his rank would not allow it. Command could not afford equipping expensive weaponry on new pilots due to the increased risk of loss. Veral just shrugged this off and decided to prove himself in the upcoming battle. His Ghost was now armed, fueled, and ready for take-off.

Finally, the Aphorite Starfleet arrived in the Regulus system. The starfighters began pouring out of the starships like bees in a beehive. The ships began closing in on their homeworld, but the Corrorian fleet was nowhere in sight.

“Search the far side of the planet. They may be preparing a trap!” Lorkale ordered.

“Delta Squadron, increase speed to 90,” commanded Veral’s wingleader.

Veral upped his speed to 90 and stayed in close formation as they swung around the planet. When they reached the other side, they saw nothing. The Corrorian fleet had vanished.

“This is Grand Admiral Delkoron speaking on all frequencies. There is no contact with anyone on the surface of the planet. Visual reports indicate a massive plasma barrage destroyed the entire surface. Even the most secure underground shelters were annihilated. Scouts indicate the Corrorian fleets have returned to Earthia. We missed them. All fighters, return to your ships. Enter orbit around Regulus and await further instruction. Delkoron, out.”

Veral sat in his cockpit taken aback by this horrible news. He put his ship on auto-pilot and instructed it to return to the hangar. Veral was confused, depressed, and angry all at the same time. The universe as he knew it ceased to exist, and a new, dark reality has set in. Little did he know the role he was about to play in the upcoming conflict…
