Not everyone knows how, and people have their own little tricks to get around files types and whatnot, so I made this guide for people to be able to learn recommended ways to easily take their screenshots, LOOK at them, and then if they wish, upload and post them.
This guide is mainly helpful for those who want to take screenshots in-game (for whatever game you play) and upload them to show others. You don't need to follow each section of the guide for it to work, each orange section can be used separately.
How Do I Take A Screenshot?
- Taking Screenshots In-Game:
- Some online games have some sort of screenshot function built in. For these kinds of games, they will autmatically save your screenshots to a folder whenever you press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard (while in-game). usually a message appears when you do this (if a message doesn't come up, then that game probably doesn't save screenshots this way).
- You can access these screenshots by going to My Computer, and then find the folder for whichever game you took the screenshot(s) in. It should have a separate folder inside it for screenshots.
- Open up MS Paint.
- While in-game, press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
- Minimize the game window (Alt + Tab), and have MS Paint opened up.
- Ctrl + V (or Edit > Paste)
- Your screenshot should be there now, and you can save it as a .bmp file quickly, open a fresh new paint document, and take more screenshots.
- Remember that you can only have one screenshot copied at a time, which makes this method slow, tedious, and faulty.
- Click here to download Capture from AnalogX.com.
- Once downloaded, open up Capture. (There should be a shortcut with the icon of a camera on your desktop. If not, go to My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > AnalogX > Capture)
- There should now be a little camera icon in the bottom right corner of your screen in the taskbar. Right-click on this icon, and select 'Configure'.
- Under the 'Capture Mode' drop-down menu, select 'Active Window'.
- Click in the 'Hotkey' field, and press a button on your keyboard to change the hotkey. Make sure it's one you do not use while playing your game. Press 'Ok' when finished.
- While playing the game, press the Capture hotkey when you want to take a screenshot. Capture will automatically save this screenshot as a .bmp file in your Capture folder (file name is the date the screenshot was taken).
- You can access these screenshots by going to My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > AnalogX > Capture.
- Common Programs Used: MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Paintshop Pro
- Viewing & Saving Image Files Using IrfanView (this shouldn't be needed if you have a program like Photoshop that can open and save all image files):
- Click here to go to their site, and click on the 'Download' link to the left.
- Once downloaded/installed, open it.. obviously.
- Go to File > Open
- From here you can open up any type of image file. This is useful if your game saves screenshots as odd files that can't be opened up in MS Paint (i.e. Warcraft saves screenshots as .TGA files)
- If you want to SAVE your screenshot as a different file type (usually so that it can be uploaded), go to File > Save As. Then go to the drop down menu next to 'Save As Type', and pick the file type you want (.BMP is common).
- Uploading Screenshots Using Imageshack:
- This is the most common image-uploading site. Click here: www.imageshack.us
- Notice (on the site) that they only upload these files: .jpg .jpeg .png .gif .bmp .tif .tiff .swf < 1.5 megabytes
- Click on Browse, and go to the folder that contains your screenshot (you should know where, how could I tell you at this point?
).
- Select.. click on 'host it!' There ya go..
This is utterly simple.. if I go above five steps shoot me.
- Copy the URL (Ctrl + C) of whatever screenshot you have (or just uploaded).
- Paste the URL (Ctrl + V) in the image tags, shown here:CODE[IMG]Your Screenshot's URL[/IMG]
- Done. Three Steps. Ha.
If you have any further questions, post them here. If you think this guide is missing anything significant, post it here. Thanks for reading, I hope this was helpful in some way.
