With stats better handled within the newest version of the arcade, and with the continuing issue of stretched posts (moreso on higher resolutions), I've been thinking about some ways to fix the problem while adding more utility and convenience in other ways. Seeing how the old score displaying in topics was broken altogether (would not update when new high scores were attained), now would be a better time than any to change things around.

I went the route of the blog field with this. Regardless of whether or not you have high scores, if you play the arcade and want your stats linked in the topic view, just go to your profile and insert your user ID into the "Scores" field. That is all you need to enter, and a link to your stat page will appear, exactly like the link currently to the left of this post. If you didn't know, your ID is the last number in your profile's URL, as well as the "Member No" as it appears in your posts. As with the blog field, spaces will break your link, so just enter the numbers.

So the champion text doesn't display in threads... What do these new links do for us instead?
  • Well, they display the champ text, but more detailed including the scores, links to the games, and links to the games' scoreboards.
  • Lists recent scores. Even if you aren't a champion, if you play the arcade it'll show something for how well you do.
  • Lists the user's favorite games, alongside his/her highest scores there.
  • Keeps threads a little neater. eek13.gif

What don't the links do? They don't add a query to slow down load times, so threads should load a little quicker. bluetongue.gif

Anyway... This field is optional, so if you would like your link displayed, why not head to your profile and get it set up? thumb.gif

I kind of miss seeing the Champion Text, but this is a much needed update. Good job on combating those dirty little stretched posts! bluetongue.gif

It may be a good idea to have it so so blogs open in new windows, because of external blogs, although if you wished you could make it so the user could select the option (via a check box on the profile page) if they want it to open in a external window/tab/page. Another option would be making it so the forums automatically open it externally if the blog is external, however that may take a bit more coding (due to having to probably rewrite the PHP, but I could be wrong). Anyway just my two/three cents and such.

That's a good idea thumb.gif

I changed it so blogs open in new windows when clicked in a topic, but I should be able to change it so external blogs automatically do that (and not the hosted ones). I'll check into that later.

Coolio, I was also wondering about scores opening externally but that isn't as important IMO, but just a thought that I felt I should suggest. bluetongue.gif
