To make things generally easier and quicker for members, would it be a good idea to add links to the significant topics (such as LOTPW and Hyperfried and Star Jedi Have Illegitimate Lovechild!) in an easily visible place on the front page?

Things which you should look at:

SKoA - http://skoa.cspacezone.com/ , if you have any Age of Empires games.

The DS Garden Festival Minigame - Link , whether you play DStorm or not.

The Most Mysterious SSSS - Link For people who don't care about...things.

Like LEGO? Play Blockland!

I was thinking more along the lines of topics, because it only requires two clicks and a bit a scrolling to get to top level forums (prize for anyone who manages to work out how to do it with one click bluetongue.gif ).

It would be nifty, although it would be difficult to have a formula for what exactly is "significant" since it's up to one's judgement. I also intended for the left to provide content of its own that is apart from the forums, and since there are so many threads that could be considered significant, that linkbar could end up stretched a bit.

The Love Child isn't that significant. bluetongue.gif There is the "Latest Posts" box on the homepage, so I think that is sufficient, since we can really clump together all of the links into one area, because it would defeat the purpose of it being convenient and easy to navigate.
