Germany's Ban on Violent Video Games

Not a ban on games.
Just put each person who shows interest in a 'violent' videogame through an intense screening process which measures brainwaves and makes sure they aren't messed up in the head.

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

QUOTE
Local newspapers blamed the shooting on the game Counter-Strike, claiming that the person involved was an avid fan of the game.
who hasn't ever played cs?
*sigh* Just give it 10 years... then once the media has found something else other than video games lay to blame on for us being so screwed up (It couldn't be bad parenting... never... nope

Probably the biggest thing that could possibly make people violent is tv. He|l... the things I see on tv are 20x worse than any video game. The only reason people don't blame tv is that 1. Games are new and strange to people and 2. The video games industry isn't as large and all powerful as the television industry.
The funny thing is... most adults I know watch at least twice as many hours of tv as I play video games, and I don't watch tv... yet somehow I'm the lazy aşs

I am now never going to go to Germany. Ever.
It also confuses me how they can draw these conclusions. Because he played the game... he killed someone?
That's like saying the reason someone poisoned their best friend's food is because they cook their own dinners. It's stupid. Too many people play video games to lay the blame squarely on the games themselves. That, and if you ban violent video games, you essentially ban every game in existence.

HI! I'M BACK SPORADICALLY! Nobody probably remembers me :(

You have to understand, it's a completely different situation in Germany. Sure we have free speech (in America) and we can do as we please here, and some people do have bad views on video games, but Germany has it's own problems to deal with besides video games. They don't want people receiving bad views or ideals because that's already happened before and it completely tore the country apart (Adolf Hitler.) Trust me it is very messed up, but Germany believe it or not is still in a stage of recovery from all of that even though it was so long ago. They have to make strict laws to keep the country in order from any outbreaks of violence.
Not too long ago, in the 90's violent outbreaks came about against immigrants coming into Germany. You'd think that there would be no problem, but these violent outbreaks gave an odd uprising to Neo-Nazism. Germany is just trying to keep their country in control, be it not as democratic as you might want it to be, but they are still trying to get to that stage where they can finally relax as a democracy and let people do as they please as done in America or other countries.
You have to understand that Germany still needs time to settle down, the government and the people are still uneasy. Yes it might not be the video games, but bad parenting/other reasons, but either way the last thing Germany needs is more violence, they have had much of it already.
Unless you live in Germany, be thankful that you can do as you please in your own country, and for the people that do live there, then I guess we shall hope for a better standing towards more freedoms like we have in other countries. Don't start complaining about a problem that isn't yours.

I have the incredible urge to build with blocks... I blame tetris.
I want to defend somebody... darn you Phoenix Wright.
Looks like Child's Play should have a new donation station built there.

Wow, I never knew that they were still trying to recover from the things like Adolf Hitler. I was merely passing the information along, not trying to say that Germany was fascist or anything like that. My apologies if it seemed like that. But you learn something new everyday.
