"De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres) by Nicolas Copernicus. Course if you want the mathematical theory involved in all of it I couldn't say.

History buffs ftw.

@ Daryl: Nope.

@ Atilla: That's the rediscovery of the Heliocentric model, not the proof that it was true. The geocentric model was just as accurate except for a tiny detail that could not have been noticed by the people of that time. Go into the future a bit more.

That all planets revolve around one other object?

ie. All the planets revolve around the sun rather than having multiple suns

Eh? The geocentric model has just one sun. It went earth-moon-venus-mercury-sun-mars-jupiter-saturn-stars.

What was the definitive proof that we live in a heliocentric system rather than geocentric?

Erm, just stabbing in the dark here, but was it because in the geocentric system, the other planets were observed to have awkward cycles, and the sun was the only one that seemed to have a circular path? Not sure if that's the definitive proof you're looking for >.<

The geocentric system accounted for the strange orbits. Think about light. bluetongue.gif

Galileo observed Venus with a telescope and found it had crescent phases like the moon does.

K'zoo got it right. The phases of Venus as they can be seen with a telescope can only exist in a heliocentric system.
