Does it help give structure to the genome to keep it stable? bluetongue.gif

Interesting thought, but no, the chemistry of the base pairs and the sugar skeleton, and the helper proteins (if I'm recalling correctly, there are proteins that help the DNA "figure out" how to coil and then super coil into the familiar chromosome structure; but that's only during cell division, the rest of the time it's lazy and just lays all over the nucleus) take care of that.

I was curious enough that I ended up just looking it up on wiki, but since I cheated and don't really understand what I was reading anyway, I'll leave this question to someone else. bluetongue.gif

Well, I have no idea, but the thread seems to be dying off again, so maybe Zoo could give us a hint for those who lack in knowledge about how we work? bluetongue.gif

Heh, sorry, my mind really sucks right now. I was thinking (the day of the last reply) "I'll give them 'til tomorrow", and then it was gone.

Hint... hmm... not quite sure how to hint without giving it away. I'll go with "interaction". You might have to poke me, but I'll give the answer (or another clue if you're feeling masochistic) if that doesn't help.

And I'll also say for this question if you can look it up and understand it enough to give me a (at least semi-) correct answer, go for it.

That'll have to wait until tomorrow probably, my brain isn't really working enough right now to form coherent explanations of anything. bluetongue.gif

I'll end the torment bluetongue.gif. There's evidence that at least part of "junk DNA" is regulatory -- helping genes know when to turn on and off, modifying output, stuff like that.

Whoever wants to take it, go ahead.

Yep, because it's easy to catch a cold.

Haha, your turn. bluetongue.gif

Indeed. Nor was that my reasoning O_O.

Hmm... I might as well have just given another question >_<.

Why are invasive species invasive?

That's their nature. bluetongue.gif
I may have a reasonable guess tomorrow, after a bit of sleep.

They have no natural predators in their foreign environment.

Indeed. Some exotics have their 'adopted' predators, but then they're less likely to be invasive. Although some still thrive even with those.
