QUOTE(sebtelfair @ Feb 14 2007, 03:50 PM) {lang:macro__view_post}

who are you asking, me or cspace?

Why exactly would I be asking you, if it was Cspace who had made this topic and posed the ideas...?

Anyway, my view of the factions is a group of people who have a game they play in common. They can organize themselves through this and easily organize events and such within this faction.

My view of gardens is a group of people that span across all the factions, and instead of other things in common -- I dunno, Galbadians might value certain things over Balamb. Just stuff like that. So factions are game-specific and gardens are cross-game.

"Factions" or whatever they become need to exist. As a multi-game guild, we need a presence in the games our members play. The most logical way for this to happen is if we start guilds in such games. Instead of calling ourselves a guild of guilds, we call ourselves a guild with factions. They are more necessary than Gardens if the comparison is made, for without them we have no focus in any particular game.

The name "faction" may change to something more appropriate.

As for a change of name causing confusion, we're causing more confusion giving the RS Faction and our overall guild the same name. We've resorted to changing the name of what we once called SeeD to the "Runescape Faction". That sounds terrible, and if old members return, they will be old members of that faction because very few joined through others. It would be much more confusing trying to figure out what "SeeD" became (if no change is made), rather than seeing that it's simply a part of something larger now. One can return and say that he/she is an old SeeD and we'll know exactly what the person is talking about.

I'd prefer the name of the multi-game guild to remain as SeeD. In games and such, Blockland in this instance, it's good to be able to call ourselves 'SeeDs'. We can put the tag in our names (I'm {SeeD} Darkyness bluetongue.gif ) and establish ourselves as SeeDs. How annoying would that be if we were suddenly all like {SomethingElse} Darkyness and {NotSeeDAnymore} Nuu and stuff like that. Not only would other people kind of need to relearn who we were and what SeeD is and everything, but we'd kind of lose part of our identity. So I think we should just leave it as SeeD and the Runescape Faction bluetongue.gif

What about the ranks? They're messed up and I think Cspace should directly assign them

An overall name change might not be the best idea. An underlying theme (or in this case name) should be kept in place to keep a sense of unity between us.

Trowa Sensei 20 W/E
Kelik Sensei 20 E/Mo
Duo Sensei 20 Rt/R

You had a good point there Cspace... I don't think i can argue against that anymore. icon_sweatdrop.gif

I think that the idea of an Order is... i don't know how to explain this... um... an interesting idea.

renaming the factions could deffinetly be a good idea... i personally don't know what to call them, but names that are like "the (game) faction" can really be drawl and boring.

I think reconfiguring the rank system might be a good idea. I've been trying to follow it, and i can't figure it out.

Hmm... Surprisingly I'm not sure I'd be against a name change, despite the fact that as I'm no longer part of the RS faction I wouldn't be a 'SeeD' anymore as such.

I think I can see where Cspace is coming from, and he makes some good points. Because of the way we progressed away from being a runescape clan to that whole multi-game factions thing fairly slowly, it ended up being fairly awkward and confusing in how things are organized and named. It might be better to just cut our losses and make things more orderly and consistent. I mean it'll be confusing at first, but after that short time it would probably make more sense to people that joined.

I'm in a bit of a hurry, so I guess if I think of anything more specific to write or suggest I'll do so later.

Your last post consisted of a single word, that word being the webmaster's name. Not much to listen to...

I think we should just get more orginized with the factions and most as much as possable to them. We also need to be very active and try to help out other members. We should never change our name from SeeD to somthig else.

Ok, we've established that SeeD will remain SeeD so let's move on.

It's not as much a change for individual factions, as is it a change for our guild as a whole. It seems that our identity has long been CurvedSpace alongside the identities of specific factions. Like, a member would be more likely to identify with the Defenders of Aderon or the "Runescape Faction" than with "SeeD" itself. It's not that they don't want to identify with SeeD, it's that it doesn't make much sense in a game to call yourself a member of SeeD when your guild name is technically something different in that context. Having a name that sounds collective, though, can make more sense. It may sound inside, but it sounds like it makes sense.

It's difficult to explain to a new member that by joining your guild (like DoA or ECC) you're also joining "SeeD". They have no idea what SeeD is, and it's difficult to explain it to someone who's new. If the first impression is that of a multi-game guild, though, it may be a different story. Perhaps no explanation would be necessary, and the faction would seem more tangible.

Many of us think of SeeD as our RS Faction, and other factions as branching from it. That's good, except it pushes the RS Faction into the background, makes all factions appear as secondary, and makes promotion quite difficult. Those seeking the RS Faction are likely to think "I wanted to join a Runescape clan, what the devil is SeeD?". Those seeking another faction's guild may think "I don't play Runescape, why do I want to be here?" Seeing how we've dug our roots very deep into Runescape as "SeeD", our identity as a multi-game guild is rather twisted from the outside perspective.

Technically I do directly assign them at this moment, at least the ones that are independent of factions.

Here's an idea!

If we were to make the changes, Gardens as they are (in name) will need to change. Most are inactive, we arguably have too many for our current activity. What if we established two Councils (or whatever new name we give "Gardens").

One could be called the "SeeD Council" (again, or whatever new title is received by Gardens), and within that could be the current Gardens in a logical form. As a whole it could focus on games.

The other could have another name and be more community-oriented. It could focus on leadership ideas, real life things, and whatever else makes sense. It could bridge the gap between community and guild for those who aren't as active in games, but want to identify with the guild.

As we grow significantly we could add more game "Councils" (don't need to say it again, but that's a pending name bluetongue.gif). In essence "SeeD" will naturally remain the community we have right now, the old-school "Council" (need I say it again? bluetongue.gif ). Well, at least old-school from the future's standpoint. More than ever before, members may be able to actually identify with a Gardenish group and have it mean something. We'll also be able to call ourselves SeeDs if we want, and naming a "Council" ( ShiftyEyes_anim.gif ) after our RS Faction won't cause any friction because new members will know who we are before they notice the "Councils" ( indifferent.gif ).

bluetongue.gif

...

"Councils" (*cough*) = Gardens

*Maybe Something Different* = Factions

Order of _____ / _____ Order = SeeD

SeeD = Runescape Faction
