So I turned on my computer today and ChkDisk ran. No problems at first, but then it started saying things about "invalid security ids" or somesuch on... well, quite a few files; took about 5 minutes to run through them all.

After it was done, Windows loaded... painfully slowly. Most of the usual startup stuff failed to, well, start up, and everything felt sluggish.

I restarted. Everything seemed to load properly... but I had no taskbar and no start menu.

Tried to run ScanDisk from Windows; it gave me the usual note about how I'd have to restart the computer so "critical Windows processes" wouldn't be running. Okay; whatever.

Restarted. ScanDisk came up and instantly said "volume clean." (Yes, instantly.)

So now I'm back in my broken copy of Windows.

...I'll be on my mom's laptop if you need me. <_< If I manage to finish my backlog of homework by tomorrow night, I'll likely be spending most of Tuesday deMicrosoftizing my computer. And possibly firebombing Redmond.

(Oh, by the way, my cousin Alicia had twins! TheSmile.gif See, proof I don't complain about everything. grnwink.gif)

deMicrosoftizing

You should submit that word to be put into the dictionary. grnwink.gif Enjoy the deMicrosoftization, and enjoy the firebombing even more. =)

My old computer had that same problem. I don't remember how I fixed it, though icon_sweatdrop.gif . I called the evil men at Microsoft to guide me through it.

System File Checker managed to get things running at a fairly speedy pace... and not much else. So basically, most everything still doesn\'t work, but what does work works nicely. bluetongue.gif

Currently backing up my Windows install to another drive. (Via xcopy, because the Backup utility doesn't work and I can't even friggin' copy-and-paste files!) Partitioning afterwards. Likely won't install stuff until sometime tomorrow... or afterwards. bluetongue.gif

EDIT: Up and running on a fresh copy of Windows. Still a bunch of stuff to install, but meh. This is kind of becoming a yearly tradition bluetongue.gif

Homework once I finish installing stuff, then Ubuntu goes on.
