Haven't they just recently come out with two or three other GW games? o.o;

I think you missed the point, their plan always was to release new campaigns about every 6 months (although it's usually been longer between). There's no online fees, so they've got to keep their profits up somehow. bluetongue.gif

Eh... but wouldn't that mean that everyone is playing a different game? How can you people consider yourselves a faction if you all have two hundred versions? bluetongue.gif

They're all technically expansions, except they can be played without the original game. The guild spans all of them as if they were expansions, characters can move between continents and meet up without trouble.

What, so they're all compatible with eachother? o.o;

They're all the same basic game, with the same graphics and mechanics and all that kind of stuff. Each campaign gives you a new continent to play in, with an entirely new storyline, as well as some new classes, skills, armour, etc. In that way it's pretty much an expansion. However you can install and play any of the games without having to have any of the others, so it's not like most games where you buy the 'main' game and can then expand it. If you own multiple campaigns then you can link them together on a single account, allowing the one character to travel between continents. The storylines are individual but linked, and there's some recurring characters in all of them. There are also some areas that anyone can reach with any campaign, which includes PvP arenas and our guild's island. Stuff like private chat and the guild system is shared between all campaigns too, so it's quite easy to maintain a guild within the game.

I guess another way to explain it is that all of the "games" are expansions of each other. They play exactly the same, use the same engine, use an all-encompassing guild system, but each provides its own content and (to an extent) something unique in terms of gameplay.

It's the same for a guild as if there were one game and expansions coming from it. The games work together like EQ2 and Echoes of Faydwer, not like EQ1 and EQ2. Most commercial MMORPGs have numerous expansions (EQ1 has 12 or 13, EQ2 is working on its fourth, SWG has three, WoW has one, etc.), and guilds are in general stronger in such games than in any other genre. There's enough that's shared that the expansions don't get in the way.

So far there is Prophecies (arguably the "main" game since it was the first), Factions, and Nightfall. Eye of the North would be the fourth for Guild Wars.

Wow, who'd have thought it? icon_sweatdrop.gif

There's a couple of areas that I'm uneasy about, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt rather than being against changing anything. bluetongue.gif
Mostly I'm just worried that it could turn into a WoW clone. GW has always had quite a lot to seperate it from other MMOs in its style, and plenty of people prefer it because of that. I'm sure they'll be careful not to alienate their existing fans though.

Also GW:EN is the most awesome acronym for a GW game ever. biglaugh.gif

Whoa, that was unexpected. bluetongue.gif

Makes sense if the expansion is coming out at the end of the year though, guess it'll bridge some of the gap. I'd expect some new stuff coming by download as well.

If they keep the whole skill and action over stats and grind based concept....I'm still game for guild wars 2.

Guild Wars Characters:

Kelik Sensei 20 E/Mo

Guild Wars found a nice medium between the two, but there's still room for improvement. At some point, you have to hit a grind, and I felt it came too soon in Guild Wars. A higher level cap beats getting to level 20 and grinding for fissure armor or super-rare items.

I'm not entirely against a higher level cap, (it'd probably let them do more with the game, instead of fighting an increasing number of enemies of level ~30) but there's no reason to assume that having to grind for levels makes it any less likely that you'll have to grind for the prestige stuff. The opposite is true in most games. You chose to go for the fissure geomancers stuff, but you won't get much of a choice as to whether it's worth grinding your way up to the maximum level or not. bluetongue.gif

Somthing I've noticed: GW:EN (Eye of the North) spells out Gwen, the ever-mysterious character thats been leaving remenants found in Nightfall, maybe we'll finally learn more about her?

Seems like Goto predicted all of this with his awards, eh?
