Indeed, check the Great Library to see it.

They will reveal more, not much that I can reveal at the start of the characters' stories. It wouldn't make much sense if I went ahead and started sticking obscure clues all over the place, when all they're doing right now is running from a Corrorian, carrying something that even they don't understand.
I'm trying my best.
I also want to get it to the point where the next conflict makes sense...
Consider the library itself as the place for information, and the epic for telling what's going on "right now" that is important (or will be important). There will be intersections with the players that will occur here instead of in the library, but not everything the characters do will physically involve everybody else.

.....what happens in the epic effects our DS characters? -.0
Indeed it will. There will be places where interaction will occur, and places where the world, the conflicts, and other aspects would physically change or evolve. It's not really apparent yet since the story hasn't gone very far.
Think of it like the players maintain their own "epics" that interact with each other. Then the iconic characters have their stories which move the overall story, and will intersect with everyone else's stories like they interact with each other. At least that's what I hope to accomplish.
Expect many of the characters I mention to appear in the open as well, they won't just be secluded in that one thread.
