Tome Slot:

Tomes will basically start as blank books with predetermined numbers of pages. A "starter" tome will be available to everyone, but better (err, longer) tomes can be bought from others or gained through quests.

Each page of a tome is like a slot of its own. On a character's pursuit of knowledge, he/she could come across bits of wisdom, ancient texts, and stuff along those lines. They could be transcribed (and consumed) onto a page of a character's tome. Such bits of information could grant stat bonuses, special persistent effects, or even abilities. The tomes can be traded as well, and a character can own multiple tomes.

The catch for all this is that once information is transcribed onto a page of a tome, it cannot be removed from that tome or transferred to another. A character will naturally possess multiple tomes for this reason, either because one was filled up or because a player is keeping them organized for tactical reasons.

Since a character can only equip one tome at a time, some thought would be put into this process. It could also be fun to roleplay.

------------------------------------

Glyph Slot:

There would be one glyph slot per character, and the glyph slot would be for nothing but extra class points. All you'll need to worry about is upgrading your characters' glyphs, not worrying about tactics and balancing. Since it would be a pain to lose one's class abilities depending on equipment, no other slot could have equipment that boosts class points. That way a character can only gain more points, not lose them... That's a lot easier to work with.

My first concern would be the added complexity they introduce into the game, but these things are, I suppose, optional, and they do not come into play immediately upon a character's creation. As a new character becomes familiar with the system, they can go after these items and comfortably integrate them into their characters.

The Tome idea is most appealing to me. Additional persistent effects, abilities, titles, stat bonuses, nukes that instantly kill Darkness' characters when and where ever they may be, or simply emo poems add a nice level of depth to the game and can reward active players with an edge over inactive ones (that won't be finding many of these).

The Glyph idea is something I need clarification on. By class points, do you mean the number of points we use to buy class boxes and stuff? If so, I think this is a neat idea.

That would be a concern, but I'm sure I could make a better explanation than the one I posted here. Each bit of knowledge could also carry a short description of how it's used, such as "Can be transcribed permanently to an unused page of a tome. Doing so will consume this text."

It would also probably be fun to roleplay. Also, a tome could end up with a lot of bonuses, and they would be quite customized by the player. It could be a worthwhile source of moneys to sell them, I would think... ShiftyEyes_anim.gif

Indeed, you'd be able to unlock more boxes. thumb.gif

I like both ideas a good bit. In addition to your innate class abilities, being able to whip out a book, recite some lines, and BBQ whoever your fighting sounds like a lot of fun.
