ok heres my idea for an event.....

Its like a player-created treasure race

A group of "Race Officals" will be staregically placed around the free Runescape, with certain instructions and riddles.

Players will start in Lumbridge and have to race around the world completing tasks and solving a riddle before moving on.

Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Last, however if more people turn up more prizes may be given.

Anyone want to add anything or volunteer to be a race offical or competitor?

It's a great idea, but would probably be hard to set up.

It probably wouldn't be hard to implement with enough planning. As long as the riddles are well thought-out and the right difficulty, it could actually be rather fun. The race officials will just need a stable internet connection and a little patience.

This could easily include random players if there's a prize at the end... The officials could spread the word around their locations before the event actually begins, and hopefully a lot of players would appear at the starting place. It could also get our name out there.

Great idea thumb.gif

Sounds great too me, but yeah it would have to be well planned and a lot of people have definately got to show for it to work well.

I hope this works out, I'd love to play/be a race official, whatever bluetongue.gif

Sounds like a good idea, and you can never plan too far in advance. grnwink.gif You'll want to make sure your Race Officials are reliable, because they'll be holding this thing together pretty much (maybe even assign backups if something comes up).

Be sure your officials know where to go and when to be there, and which riddle to give.

Make sure these tasks can be completed by everyone. If money is involved, make it a smaller amount.

Would it be possible for players to travel in groups, or would that defeat the prize set-up?

Are you planning on misleading players with the riddles (sending them the wrong way) or just slowing them down? If you plan on misleading them, wording is key. If you just want to stall them, the riddles need to be easy to read and understand, but difficult to figure out.

Good luck. thumb.gif

Thaks for all the advice, im gonna knuckle down and uber-plan everything, so that there isnt much chance of failure, if people get behind it. ill post a new thread or sumthing with all the details and what not, but plaese keep the bits of advice and what not coming, id appreciate it.

Well, to get around the necessity for everybody being there who signed up, maybe we don't need to give specific roles until the day of the event.

We could just say "SeeD A", "SeeD B", that sort of thing. Then whoever is chosen as "SeeD A" on the day of the event can say the appropriate riddle.

We could underestimate the attendance a little, and have fewer officials with riddles than those who actually signed up. That way if a couple of us can't make it, the event can still go on. "Extras" can perhaps help at the beginning and end, or come a little later to throw a party, which may be a good way to end the whole thing. They can also run around promoting the event.

Regardless, I would highly recommend that the clan chat is used. We should ask everyone who becomes involved to join the chat (even those who aren't in our clan), which will make it easier to reach everyone when someone wins, and organize a party at the end.

Just ideas though.

I've taken part in a few things along these lines before. As you've said they're quite a lot of work, but they can be a lot of fun too. It's hard to know in advance whether I'll be able to make it due to conflicting time zones and stuff, but provided my character hasn't been hacked I could probably find something to donate for prizes.

It may also be wise to have the judges use a specific channel, and to set their private chat to off. This would make it harder for people to find them, and make it so they >have< to figure out the riddles. Someone could stay in the normal clan chat (Ziggywolf5), and communicate to one of the judges via MSN or something. ShiftyEyes_anim.gif

Well, there seems to be plenty of interest in this event so I think this will probably be a successful event. I'll help if the time is good for me.
