When your bowels start moving because of the vibrations, you know it's exactly as loud as it's supposed to be.

Music is NEVER too loud.

I didn't spend $2500 on a JL Audio 12W7 and JL Audio 500/1 Amp to put in my pick up for no reason...

Yes, it used to hurt at first.

Yes, I have gotten tickets for it.

Yes, I rattle windows and set off car alarms.

Yes, I make old people mad.

Yes, it can rupture organs. Especially your heart.

No, my hearing is still fine. If you don't believe me...try me. TheSmile.gif

I go to car shows and stuff...that's why I have it, lol. And I love it..

Sunn O))) concerts are a pretty good guideline for the optimal volume for music.

Ok, here's the optimal level.

You know how there's a point where, if you turn your music up any louder it begins to sound like garbage because your speakers aren't absolutely godly $200 a piece speakers? Yeah, JUST under that point.

I just went to a concert Tuesday. Too loud. Argh, I hate it.

The "loud concert" tradition is just foolish. Back in the day when all you had was a wall of amps on stage turned up to eleven so the back of the crowd could hear, it was understandable. But today, it's not necessary. Ever hear of PA systems? Those things are there for a reason, and they are not there so you can blast them -and- your amps, even if they're your monitors. Moderation in volume, people. Music is art, not an excuse to destroy your senses.

Well. 2 points.

1.
I was at one of Bruce Springsteens concert in july. They were running 100 dB, all well and good, but they had some pink noise which was almost 120. But eh, 100 is well and fine.

2.
In the apartment complex-thingy I'm in, there's some rules of music I consider VERY acceptable.
A) No music should be heard between 11 pm and 8 AM.
B) Music should normally be turned down when you can hear the bass in the other peoples room.
And finally, C) If you want to play higher, you may call the landlord on a saturday to ask. Only saturdays, and you need permission. But no partying.

Anyone who's been in the vicinity of me and my iPod can attest to this (the BCHS Theatre kids, for example)

I listen to music way too loudly. I've ruined two sets of headphones. I've interrupted my Government class on two occasions (when we were allowed to listen to them, of course). Everyone knows that I listen to songs ranging from Phantom of the Opera to Freebird to Dragonforce.

When is it too loud?

When you can't hear the ambulance behind you.
When the house you're currently in is shaking.
When people have to -hit- you to get your attention.

I'm so ashamed...

"Truth is an illusion. Everything is permitted." - Al Mualim
"Come and get it, n00b!" (might be misquoted) - Frank Fontaine
