This helpful video series will teach you the basics of speaking like us! I've found that most of the words and phrases used are hilariously accurate bluetongue.gif .

Episode 1: There's Lots of Uses of S's
Episode 2: What's a Hoosier?
Episode 3: This Pop Needs Put in the Ice Box
Episode 4: From Angola to Lebanon

Episode 4 is probably my favorite bluetongue.gif .

Actually, newscasters speak like non-Hoosier Midwesterners. bluetongue.gif

I have a lot of distant relatives in Indiana. They're Hoosiers, but have thicker accents.

I say some of these things and more. Pittsburghese is still the best.

"Jeet jet? No, jew?" --> "Did you eat yet? No, did you?"

Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

Meh, I understand coonass fairly well. It's almost just like east Texas redneck.

Now, WTF is a hoosier? I can't use youtube right now.

A Hoosier is someone who hails from Indiana. The origin of the nickname is unknown, but it's popular enough for Indiana University to call themselves the Hoosiers bluetongue.gif .

Pittsburgh is one of the more difficult for me to understand, personally. In southern Illinois they kind of sound like Hoosiers, and it's hard for me to describe the northern Illinois accent, but mostly older people speak it and it sounds really dorky. bluetongue.gif

If you're up there enough to be considered "From the North", I have to admit you all sound about the same to me. The only real discernible accent was from Minnesota.

But then again, I just can't tell much difference. sad.gif It's always interesting to have people ask me to repeat myself because of my accent though. Telltale sign that they're new down here.

I think we should all submit sound clips of ourselves speaking and compare them bluetongue.gif .
