Yes, my catfish, named Tanya died just now at 7:58 A.M sad.gif. Unfortunately, The cold water was the cause which was about 68 degrees farhenheit, 7 degrees colder than what should be the right water temperature for the fishes sad.gif. He was so young, and lived a short life.

R.I.P- Tanya sad.gif, the 4 inch fish that is enjoying the great sea of the heavens right now sad.gif

I didn't know catfish were so small, or could be so small. Sorry for the loss, may Tanya rest in peace (along with all of the fishies I've killed by drinking from the school water fountain for too long).

We actually got our catfish at petco.
When it came in our tank, i can see the fish stuck in that wall and it was cute
I never realized that 68 degrees of water can kill a fish sad.gif

Are you 100% certain that it was the temperature that killed her? I mean...there's really no reason why the cold would kill a fish. Especially at that temperature. It's not like it can cut off their circulation. I'anno...it might have just been her time to go. Was your water filter working properly?

I'm very certain. The average temperature for a right water temperature is 75 degrees farhenheit. I just learned that the 7 degrees decrease in temperature can cause a critical problem, and can cause death. The only fish I know that lives at that temperature is a goldfish, which I have 2 and look very healthy. That catfish was one of the many aquarium fishes that need 75 degrees of water. So yea sad.gif

Water filter was working at its greatest performance i believe

Sounds like a Plecostomus to me.

I'm pretty sure those are tropical fish.

Yeah, it would've been a tropical catfish. The temperature by itself would not be an immediate problem, but it would be if there was a sudden swing in temperature, which sounds like what happened.

There are lots of fish that will enjoy the cooler temperature, goldfish are the commonly kept types. Most people keep tropical fish in their aquaria.
