We also need something to keep forum-goers happy. Our Tier system doesn't seem to be too exciting. The Arcade and Shop are very cool, so let's definitely add to them. Perhaps we could create clubs (with perks) for members who have helped the forum in different ways. A cooler profile, access to certain boards, a better ranking system, and potential modship are all attractive things to many members.

Some fields would be removed altogether, such as Spheres and Tiers. Factions would truly have nothing to do with our guilds in my revised plan. There would be two member factions, both of which would have their own systems that are maintained by members. Think big Gardens, but with a purpose on our site instead of a guild.

Those organizing SeeD (the gaming faction) would perhaps focus on events, parties, tournaments, and other stuff like that. Those organizing the second faction would focus more on contests, providing content for CurvedSpace, handling a newsletter, keeping debates and trivia going, among other similar things. The administrative faction would deal with the big picture, and also help to organize promotion and similar things that involve everybody.

In the revised plan, only DoA would actually remain as its own guild here. SeeD would be assimilated into the gaming category, and the inactive guilds would be archived. Our focus would shift to the community, and when it comes to games we'll organize to just do stuff wherever we want (including RS, Steam, WoW, AoE, etc.). We would simply host stuff for players, and not divide ourselves between guilds. Members can still establish guilds here, but it would become a big deal to do it, and only possible in certain games.

*****************************

As for positions, they would be handled by each faction individually. Members can manage the organization however they want, and I'll initially provide two fields to replace the Arbiter ones. One will be for faction membership, and the other will be for a faction position.

I understand that members want to be mods, but unfortunately that's a very limited position and we shouldn't have more than we need. While I plan to cycle mods more quickly as they become inactive, I can't really promise the position to anyone. In factions, though, members could handle leadership that's important on the site. Perhaps it would be done through elections or some other means, but in an ideal situation leadership will change at various times to keep ambitions high.

We would just need to maintain it, which really shouldn't be that hard.

Excellent. I like where this is heading.

Based on feedback, I've implemented the revised idea. It may be a big change, but I'm confident that it will help us in many different ways.

If it's a disaster, I can change things back, but I don't think it will be necessary. I'm closing this thread in favor of the one in Announcements.
