The sound of thunder echoes through the desert landscape. A massive stone golem approaches the fortified town of Maldenar. The golem stands 30 meters tall and is strangely covered in thick metal armor. The golem's knee and elbow joints appear to glow, as does its neck. The giant golem slowly makes its way towards the city, causing the ground to shake with every step. By now it can be felt by those inside the city walls...

Reikin is well over a kilometre away from the golem. But this does not phase him; his bionic eye allows him to target well over that distance in a clear battlefield. He would not need a sniper rifle however, as the target was large enough to blast with a charged shotgun blast. He holds his position and charges the shotgun with the power of the Storm, aims at the golem's leg joint and fires.

The shot flies towards the Golem at considerable speed, dipping slightly as gravity pulls on it. The shot is perfectly aimed, and appears that it will hit the golem right in the leg. However, as the shot approaches the golem, it suddenly dips down and plunges into the sand a hundred or so meters away from the golem. It is almost as if something was curving it down off its path and into the sand.

Reikin looks extremely surprised at the result. Was there an abnormal gravitational force within that region? He decides to test his theory out and charges another shot, now firing well above the golem's head.

The shot travels as one would expect it to, until suddenly it dips into the group again. The crater from this shot is a closer than the last, but still a good 70 meters away from the target. You can't get a perfect read on it, as the golem is moving.

OOC: To calculate a shot's y-axis movement across multidimensional gravitational fields would require highly complex piecewise calculus, which I don't expect the average character to be able to do in his head on the fly, unless he's assisted by a complex computer aiming system. For better results, get closer. bluetongue.gif

I guess it's time for a little help.

Once again, he gets ready to fire. He seems to be relatively still for quite a while. His bionic eye now seems to be flashing to outside viewers. To Reikin, messages scroll by:

Activating...
Abnormal gravitation field detected.
Intelligence of target: Mediocre.
Switching to simple calculation mode.

Calculating best trajectory...
Calculating velocity of energy particle.
Calculating gravitation fields.
Calculating velocity of target.

Adjusting for obstacles...
None found.

Finalising aim...

A crosshair appears.

Best aim found.
Chance of success, 99.32%.

"Gotcha," Reikin mutters. He fires directly at the crosshair, which is now quite high above the golem and also quite far away horizontally.

The bolt of energy flies in a perfect arc into the gravitational field, then plummets faster. However, the shot was perfectly aimed, and drops right into the golem's leg joint. The rocks at the join shatter and turn to sand, which drips down its leg like water. The sand falls away to reveal a node that sparks out and shatters. The golem's leg below the knee is not connected to its body anymore, and it stumbles to the ground. Fortunately for the golem, it can reconnect, which the golem does. The golem resumes its course towards the city.

Intriguing.

This time, he does not prepare to fire. Instead, he inputs a few more commands into his bionic eye mentally. The eye responds:

Disabling the power output restriction can cause damage to both user and weapon!
Are you sure?

...Power output restriction removed.

"This is gonna hurt..."

Since the gun was designed to hold infinite amounts of energy, the weapon was unlikely to be damaged. However, to the user is a completely different story. Since Reikin is channeling the energy from the Storm into the gun, excessive energy could consume and kill himself. He had to be careful. He flicks the gun and morphs it into a special type of gun he needed for this situation. An Energy Rocket Launcher, with the ability to fire three shots at once. He begins charging the gun...

...Warning!
Maximum output exceeded!
Exceeding 100%!
Exceeding 200%!
Exceeding 300%!

Three times the power was exactly what he needed. His body was burning up with the excessive energy. He had to be quick.

Finding best target.
...Weak spots found.

Crosshairs appears over the torso in three places, then moves appropriately according to the gravitation field and movement. The shots would probably contain enough energy to consume all of the torso.

He doesn't hesitate.

He fires, energy rockets all flying towards the sky, arcing down towards their target.

"Aaaaaargh!"

Reikin collapses. His right arm is set alight and he quickly puts it out with his coat. His coat smoulders into tattered rags and his right arm is not quite it used to be...

OOC: Sorry, forgot about this. bluetongue.gif

---

The first energy arcs to the target, but the Golem puts up its massive arm to block the vital point from the shot. Parts of the arm blast off, but the damage is minimal in this area. The other two shots, however, make it through. The other leg is blown off, as is the right arm. These parts fall to the ground at first, but then start to rise up. The limbs reattach perfectly, though the glowy parts are gone... wait. The light from the first leg reappears. The golem can regenerate these weak points, but how fast?

"Agh! Why won't you die?!" Reikin cries out in frustration. His right arm is now more of a rotting corpse's arm than a normal arm. He pulls out a syringe filled with aqueous green substance with his left and injects it into his right arm. Immediately, the arm begins to regenerate. However, it doesn't appear he will be able to use it for a good few hours.

"I guess it can't be helped." Reikin now looks more determined than ever. He now finally decides to close the distance between him and the golem, shifting the Energy Rocket Launcher back into a shotgun. He reenables the power output restriction: he could not afford to lose his other arm.

Approaching the golem, he stops relatively close to the area where the gravitation abnormality occurs. Thankfully, the shotgun has little recoil, so he is able to shoot sufficiently with one arm.

Retargeting...

Target locked.
Hit accuracy, 91.32%.

Despite the fact he could use the left arm to shoot, he wasn't nearly as accurate when using both. But regardless, he had to try. Maldenar didn't need a giant golem charging down its doors.

With a battle cry, he unleashes wave upon wave of shotgun blasts, each equally as powerful as the last.
