It's been a year since the destruction of Maldenar and the opening of the mysterious Inscription Canyon. Glyphs and writing span the rocky walls of that gash in the desert, but it's of a language that nobody today seems to understand. There is little trace of Maldenar other than rubble and shallow foundations of stone and clay. Some of the stones remaining from the town were used in the construction of a great but narrow bridge, however, that stands not far to the south. The canyon is deep enough that trade caravans are otherwise forced to go all the way around, so necessity is what pushed the bridge's construction to be completed so quickly.

The canyon actually succeeded in stopping the conflict between Aderon and Forlon for a bit. There was a little skirmishing across the canyon, but this proved to be pointless. Even today with the new bridge, the war does not often cross the canyon. One side will suffer heavy losses if caught crossing, for the bridge is almost a mile long, and is not exactly the sturdiest of structures. Instead the two kingdoms spent the year building up their navies, and even a few dirigibles were built to go over the canyon, but they're too expensive right now for use in frequent battle. Entarca had already built up its navy, so now it's beginning to put it to some use.

Euphrascia and Frionia continue to fight against Valeron, and actually seem to be gaining the upper hand. However, Valeron continues to search the Plane of Ages for the presence of Nemorok, who will certainly shift the balance of the conflict in their favor. The Arbiters fear that Valeron is close to achieving this, and are doing everything they can to stop it from happening.

Meanwhile, Corroria and Eridaan continue to fight in a growing war. Never before have there been so many fleet battles and fortified systems, but neither side seems to be making progress against the other. The so-called Corrorian Rebels, under General Valdarian of the Syndicate, are profiting from the conflict as would probably be expected. Some other Underground organizations have seen their profit, and are rising to challenge the Syndicate to get a piece of the prize yielded by the Galactic War.

... However, not all sides in the conflict are so fortunate. As retaliation for the destruction of a Corrorian space station, the Corrorian Navy attacked the Delta Crateris system and managed to destroy all the jump gates that gave the Karlorons access to the rest of the galaxy. Since they lack technological capabilities of their own, they are not able to repair these gates or develop any kind of replacement. This isolated a few small groups from their home system, and trapped all the rest in their Hive. One had better be careful approaching Qaruxx, because the Karlorons have never been so angry at all who fly starships. (If you want to play a Karloron, you probably want to control one that was isolated from Qaruxx instead of one actually in that system.)

Then on another cosmic topic, the Storm has grown in power during the past year. All the Avendil enjoy a little more power as well, and in Aenoria and Dharonia, some believe that new portals are stabilizing in the riftlands. This is exciting for them, because nobody knows what knowledge and power they will yield once safe for travel.

Lastly, there has been no trace of the three adventurers who escaped the desert to the south. Well, some believe that they were involved in an incident at the docks east of Aderon, but these are only rumors...
