So, disclaimer first, I have nothing against intelligent, well-reasoned republicans.

Ok, that's out of the way, I've been seeing this billboard for a bit, the whole text is:

"Please, don't vote for a Democrat
www.therepublicansong.com"

The song (warning if you choose to visit, if you choose "about the song," not only do you get the lyrics, you get an autoplay of the song) basically the song is a rant about "liberals" and encouraging people to continue doing what has not been good for this country for as long as I can remember, that is, vote on party lines. There's nothing useful accompanying the site, just an "encouragement" to not vote for a "democrat". Maybe we should all vote for the green party, should make this guy quite happy bluetongue.gif. The only page with any substance is his bio, which is also vague (and overly brief) on the issues he brings up.

I don't feel particularly qualified to comment on anything specific in the song past it's vague rantiness, but if you're old enough to vote, please choose based on how well the candidates match your own views and not because of the label they've stuck on themselves (or any other non-issue like 'race', gender, religion, etc.). There may have been a time when those party labels actually told a person something about what the candidate stands for, but I don't think they do any more.

Yeah things like this generally tick me off in a big way. As much as I love the internet for the ability for everyone with a computer to share ideas, I hate the internet because everyone with a computer can share their idea. Even when it's something completely idiotic like this.

Voting party line is plain foolish.

I think it bugs me a bit more that this guy is getting enough money from somewhere to put up billboards that say "vote without using your brain" bluetongue.gif, his website doesn't look particularly cheap either (amazingly enough), but a website can be had pretty cheaply compared to a billboard, I thought. [Or, a little searching shows it's around $700 to $2500 a month. Still, I could, with a little graphic design talent, set up a website for a month for $20 give or take.]

I think the point of the site is to say "Vote anything that isn't obama for president"

Anyways, See: satire

If it's satire, it's extremely subtle. This is exactly how a frighteningly large number of people think. They will vote for whichever candidates are marked republican and get confused when they get to things like judges because they have no affiliation listed on the ballot. (This is not to say there isn't a frighteningly large number of democrats who do exactly the same.)

Unfortunately, this guy really fits the type. I don't see it.

When trying to find out of something is satyrical, consider Poe's Law. Usually this applies only to religion, but considering the fact that the republican party has gone to bed with the religious fundies, some crossover is to be expected.

I like how he thinks republicans are the ones guarding the constitution...

Anyway, I haven't bothered to go to this site due what you guys are saying. My brain can accept a limited amount of crap, and the political circus has already put me close to the maximum as it is.

Though I personally am republican, I don't think either of the current two major presidential candidates deserve to be president, or would make a good one if elected. Obama, for example, doesn't even seem patriotic, while McCain swears at anyone who disagrees with him. A major thing that really bothers me about modern political candidates is how they can't seem to think of a way to win votes without insulting and belittling their opponents. If someone would make a good president, they should be able to win without making everyone else look bad.

And personally, by now I rather agree with George Washington, when he urged even on his deathbed against ever forming political parties in America, as it would only serve to divide us. It's rather stupid how people immediately label others based simply on whether they're republican or democrat. As Alpha has just so proudly demonstrated in his post, but he's always been an opinionated person anyway, and I know him well enough to not really care xD But it's pathetic. And what we have to choose from as far as presidential candidates goes seems to have an amusing and terribly accurate correlation to the degradation of modern society, and our country... -.-;

If patriotism is unyielding support for overthrowing other countries in favor of our own system of government, then I don't care that I'm unpatriotic. The idea that in order to be patriotic you have to agree with the americanization of the entire world disgusts me.

Obviously I'm also very opinionated.

Eh? I took great care to avoid such labeling. Reread please. Unless you consider my labeling of the republican party as republican a stupid thing... bluetongue.gif

The late and great George Carlin and I hold very similar ideas about voting. Please. Read what we have to say.
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Such a heavy burden now to be "The One".
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see.

Well, considering what people think is and isn't patriotic these days (and that Americans are the only people on the planet attitude) I think a great many people have lost touch with what it really means.

Your comment makes me think of a guy I saw briefly on the national news (I think it was that) before heading out the door one day. . . I don't remember why he was abroad, but while he was there he saw a school holding class on a patch of dirt, scratching the ground to write. So, with no ulterior motive (that I could see, usually it's rather evident) he arranged to build them a building to hold class in and stuff besides dirt to write on, and other things in that community. Things they would have had if they'd been able to afford them on their own. If we could do more of that sort of thing. . .

Yeah, the comment was about one man (who labeled himself, and specifically named republicans at the part Alpha was talking about).
