Can you have too many fans on your computer?

Right now, I idle at a steady 44C/111F core temp. I assume this isn't too horrible, but it has my confined little area roasting. I have stationary fans set up nearby, and sometimes that'll drop it down to near about 80F. I'd do that all the time, but I don't want a desk fan on my desk.

I've found a little item I'm thinking about buying. Link to case fan.

Not only is it PRETTY, but reviews says it does a decent job of lowering temperature.

I've also found another fan that takes a PCI slot. PCI slot fan. Noise isn't much of an issue and can be overlooked, but I'd still prefer something quiet.

I'm trying to be cheap, too. Watercooled and other stuff look fun/awesome/fantastic, but I don't need anything like that.

Anyone want to shed some light here? Suggestions? Something like that.
Thanks.

Fans are pretty cheap, you can get a plain old regular wire it up yourself fan for 20$-30$. Maybe a cool 120mm glow in the dark one? Anyway I wouldn't put to many fans in a computer just becouse of the noise and you may put one were the CD drives are shacking and may scratch a CD. I don't know how much of a beast your computer is. But i would give you a 2 fan max for a computer and thats all you really need. If you are still having temperature problems it may be becouse of other things such as a dusty computer or near by electronics.

^^PUT THIS IN YOUR SIG ASAP!

There are several factors that go into keeping your computer cool. Number one parameter is to never let your CPU go above 60C. That is the ceiling and is considered highly dangerous to run your CPU at that temperature. Now the factors that go into cooling your computer are, "Overall CFM," "Airflow," and, "Fan Count."

A person can have all the fans in the world with a budget that would rip a hole into the time space continuum but still can terrible results. Your first bet is to clean up the possible rat's nest of wires in your computer and clean it up. After that you need to understand this. The front fan in the bottom is used to draw in air while the fan on the back of the case is used to exhaust the hot air out of your pc. I have seen some computer cases with as much as eleven fans. The problem is the airflow was nothing short of horrid. My pc has at least five fans in it.

Next thing is try to caluclate the overall CFM of your cases fans and then add it up and see if you can get a bigger fan that outputs more CFM than you need. A 120MM fan can produce very good results. Since the blades are larger they can move air with less RPM's and are actually quieter. You can mount a 120MM fan on an 80MM duct with an adapter.

In conclusion, basically experiment and see how you can lower those temps. Good luck and have fun with your experimentation. Myself spoken, I idle at around 32C and get a load of 45C on my oced pc. Good luck and have fun with your computer.
