Well, I usually get a 3month gym membership on my summer vacations for the past two yrs but after then I dont have time to go all the way to the gym when school comes back in. But I recently wanted to start working out again mostly in order to loose a good bit of weight. So I bought a decent treadmill from Walmart and have been doing 1-2 miles on it every day for the past 9days. Yesterday I also found a really nice deal on a dumbbell set at walmart for $20 so I bought those. It is basically a set of two dumbbells with 40lbs, you can make one dumbbell go to 30lb or 20lbs ea and have been gaining some decent muscle so fare. I have also been eating 4-6 (depends on school) meals a day with healthy alternatives as well as no soda and 1-2liters of water a day.
Usually after 2months of working out 1hr a day for 3days a week at the gym I would gain 33% more muscle then my average (and im not a weak guy) of what I could lift as well as loosing 3-4lbs a month.

Rite now after 9days of running and 2 days of using dumb bells I have gained 1lb....I think this is from muscle though since I cant see how it is possible to gain weight after what I have been doing. I want to loose 5lbs a month which I think would be really easy to get to. (I know I should rest a couple of days a week and I will as I feel like it needs to be done)

I also found a really nice website full of dumbbell exercises: http://www.criticalb...l-exercises.htm

Anyone else trying to ether lose weight or/and gain muscle?
Or anyone have any suggestions or comments to make?

I am not returning to Cspacezone forums, I am just simply wanting to keep this as a diary to myself and a place were people can get help on their issues or can offer me some help TheSmile.gif. In other words this will be the only thread I post to
I just really liked this thread and it did motivate me a lot then if I didnt have it.

4 months 20 days now
Current weight: 192
Lost: 35lbs
I am still working out but now on top of my dumb bells and treadmill I bought a bench bar but I didnt get the stand becouse my house is too small for it. I also bought more weights to put on them. I have been eating more calories as well, I moved from 1200cal avrg to around 1600cal, still mostly healthy foods.
My summer vacation off school starts in a couple more days and during the 2 months summer I am really hoping to reach my goal weight of 170lbs, this will put me in the normal weight range and I need this becouse I am going to buy a new wardrobe by the end of the summer becouse a lot of stuff is too big on me now. I am 5'8" btw.
Workout plan: 5 times a week: run/fast walk 3 miles, lift weights, and I am starting to add swimming to this as well.
Here is my weight rang just to for looks:
Starting weight-227lb-Obese class 1
Current Weight-192-Overweight
Goal weight-170-Normal

Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far, please give me your opinions and comments and keep helping me out, I need it, when I hit 170lb ill deffinatly have to post some before and after pics.

I havnt updated this in a while so here is my current progress:
I havnt been working out or anything except for swimming/walking on the beach becouse I have been out of town and on vacation and I wont lie...lazy. Still keeping the calories low though
Weight: 186lbs (I doubt I gained any weight, this is most likely added water weight or added muscle weight.
Goal: 170lbs

I now fit in a size Medium-Large shirt (from XXL)

Began working out agin from a 2 week break yesterday by doing P90X.
I think I mentioned it in a earlier post but I had all the P90X videos but I felt like I just couldnt do them, well after losing 40+lbs I started yesterday. I am planning on also running/fast walking 3miles a day like I have been normally doing, but I injured my right leg first with playing bball with sucky shoes (bought new nice bball and new running shoes) and got a chunk of skin off and then when that went away I was at the beach and a huge wave that I was trying to body surf crashed down on me and I did a 360 under the water. But I will be ok in hopefully another few days.

Havn't updated this in a long time.
Have been working out/getting physical activity for 2hrs a day 5/7 becouse of PE at my school.
Raised my caloric intake for protein and to gain muscle and I have definitely gained some muscle.
I am going back to my 1200-1400 intake level becouse I just wanna look good. I am currently at 1800-2200cals using 500cal (60g protein) 5/7 (this is ok for me becouse my body size it takes 3200cal for me to gain fat weight), but i am going to stop this for a while to lose some weight.
current weight: 185-190lbs (scale changes almost daily for me becouse I drink so much water)

If anyone would like to update me on how they are doing ether losing weight wise or gaining muscle wise it would be interesting to me.

The gaining weight is certainly due to muscle. Lifting weights will do that to you. The good thing is that you're actually getting healthier, despite the weight gain.

I believe muscle weighs more than fat so that explains the weight gain. But good luck ^^

indeed muscle weighs more than fat. I discovered this when I got my job and weighed myself after about four weeks at work. I had gained fifteen pounds but hadn't gained any fat. I was curious so I asked, and sure enough by working and toning myself at work, I had gained fifteen pounds of muscle.

Was weird. >_>

Personally, I don't have any workout routine. Everything I do to work out revolves strictly around my job, and that's all I need. I'm getting into the habit now of doing a set of pushups daily, just so I can have some help with my arms. I'm just fine in the abdomen area, but I comparing my arms to my torso, looks like I have sticks for arms. bluetongue.gif

Get yourself 2 dumbbells, look in walmart for the $20 gold gym ones. they are really nice and you can buy more weight as you go.
They will help you so much in ever aspect of gaining a lot of muscle in you arms. I know a good bit about losing wieght but much more about gaining muscle and what works and doesn't work for me. When you get some dumbbells be sure to visit the website I posted in my first comment.

PS: I will be updating my first post with new things I am doing.

The only equipment I've ever bought are weights to strap to your ankles. They help with resistance like oh my God awesome. I wear them every day, and when I take them off at night I feel like I'm about to fly away.
I started with 5 pound weights, and in about two more weeks I'm going to buy two more 5 pounders and use those.

As for dumbbells, I don't have any room for them in my house. XD After I move I will, and I'll definitely do that then.

Yeah. Muscle weighs either four or eight times as much as muscle.

Are you trying to build muscle or lose weight? You can't do both.

Well, I hope he's not expecting to build muslce AND lose weight.

Get back to us, and let us know what you are looking to do specifically...it's going to change what your workout is, and your diet.

Do you want to build muscle....or cut fat....take your pick...

I have been a fat kid @ 228 lbs, a jacked kid @ 190lbs, and a skinny weak kid @ 161lbs...so I've been across all the spectrums, and can relate to whatever position you're in and want to be in...

You can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. In order for muscle to survive it needs to feed off a little fat. But I am looking to lose weight more then fat. But lifting weights is a very important part of losing weight.

...please don't poke me
