Here's my new PC's specs:

Galaxy Black Mid Tower Case with Blue Bubble Light LED Strip (totally shmexy!) - 450W PSU
Intel Pentium Dual Core E6300 2.8GHz Socket 775 2MB Cache
ASUS P5Q SE2 iP45 Motherboard

I was thinking of overclocking the CPU to 3GHz or so.

I know that someone overclocked it to 3.2GHz, but I wouldn't really want or need to go that high.

Would it be effective?

If you have any recommendations for by how much, please post.

It's not that hard to overclock, it's a matter of finding out how to. Let me see if I can dig up some guides on how to overclock your stuff. I think your core is not the Pentium as it is a Core 2 Wolfdale. Let me look it up and get back to you.

Thanks.

The processor thing is strange, since the packaging and everything was labelled as 'Pentium Dual Core'.

Thanks. :thumb:

I enjoy running two/three operating systems at the same time, which takes up a hell of a lot of processing power. :P

Overclocking the CPU you have is really simple, all you need to do is go into the BIOS and raise the Front Side Bus(FSB), just raise it in small increments of like 10-20 and see if it boots fine, do this for a bit then go into windows and stress test it a bit, if it all runs fine repeat the process, once you hit the limit on the voltage your cpu is at I wouldn't recommend pushing it any higher with stock cooling, I think the stock FSB of your CPU is 1066 so I would try like 1333 on stock voltage, my old E6600 ran at that fine.

Although that is all based off my old E6600 and P5N32-SLI Premium setup so I dont know how it will work for you and how your motherboard refers to the FSB and how it measures it...

Yeah, I'm fine with doing it, I was just wondering how effective overclocking this setup would be.

They overclock fairly well. Just don't push it too hard unless you plan on upgrading* in a year or two.
