Hey sooo.

I'm looking to buy a new computer and such. Now I know really not that much at all about computers and how they work and such, and honestly I don't really care. So. You guys can help me! xD

Here's kind of what I was planning on getting:

This combined with this. (I was also looking at this for a card, I can't tell the difference and I dunno which is better.)

Now as I said, I don't really know much about computers.

These are really the only things that I know about this computer that seem important to me:
3.20GHz processor
4 GB memory
1 TB hard drive
and ATI Radeon 5770 card

Past that I don't even know what's going on. So, my question is, will this work? Am I stupid (don't answer that)? Are these two things I'm planning to buy missing something that's rather integral to making computers work properly (other than the monitor/mouse/keyboard, I'm not that silly)? ADVISE ME, SIRS

(On a side note, I was originally just gonna get this, but then figured I could get a better deal and better performance if I bought a barebone kit thing yeah xD)

Past that I don't even know what's going on.

So, my question is, will this work? - Probably, since the most important parts you have to match up all come together

Am I stupid (don't answer that)? Yes

Are these two things I'm planning to buy missing something that's rather integral to making computers work properly (other than the monitor/mouse/keyboard, I'm not that silly)? You might want a sound card, but not a lot of people do now. Also you'll find it quite hard to install an operating system without a disc drive and SATA cables.

ADVISE ME, SIRS - I'll try, badly.

Both of those cards look good and will play well, but the XFX is sexier.

Yeah I don't think I'll be getting a sound card. And oh right, disc drive xD Am I supposed to get an external one or something, or does an internal one somehow work with that thing even though it uh I don't know where I'm going with this sentence. And wtf are SATA cables?

SATA cables are what connect hard drives to your motherboard. They look like this:

Of course, if your drive isn't OEM (it usually says OEM in the description on the site if it is) it will come with one of those.

I'd go with internal. Much more reliable and no 25/100 chance of it working.

You'll need two SATA cables if you plan on getting one hard drive and one disc drive.

They both are pretty much the same, except the XFX one looks like it has a far better cooling system.

So... Things to buy: the computer, the video card, disc drive, two SATA cables, and er wait that's all? By the way that kit seems to come with a HD, dunno if you were aware of that, does that change anything?

Also, what does a disc drive need to have. In other words, do I need more than this? xD

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB Hard Drive (OEM)

Sony AD-7240S-0B Optiarc DVDRW Drive - DVD+R 24X, DVD-R 24X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, DVD-RAM 12X, SATA (OEM)

You'll definitely need two SATA cables, because both of those drives are OEM.

Are you sure you'll be all right assembling?

My dad will probably be doing most of it lol.

How long do the cables need to be and whatever?

Alright. So yeah, I don't really know anything about disc drives. Does one need anything more than the one I linked to? Or does that one do all the stuff that you'd need? And is that one an internal one? Do I want an internal one? ... Did I already ask that?

For optical drives, internal vs. external comes down mostly to personal preference. External costs a bit more for the same performance, but obviously is much simpler to move between computers, since you don't have to open the case and unmount it from the frame.

And that drive should handle just about any CD or DVD format you throw at it. Speed looks decent enough to me, but I dunno what's available these days or if it's a good deal. But it shold be fine if you don't need Blu-ray and don't mind giving money to TigerDirect and Sony.

Fixed that for you.

I dislike Tiger Direct for shafting people on returns and rebates; they have a reputation for this and have done it to friends of mine. (They also sued Apple for naming one of the OS X releases "Tiger," but then, frivolous lawsuits are as American as baseball and apple pie).

I dislike Sony for using music CDs to install rootkits on its customers' PCs as an anti-piracy measure — seriously, wtf? — then creating an even worse security problem with the uninstaller they released for it, and more recently for removing the "Other OS" feature from the PS3 via a software update (effectively forcing owners to buy a second PS3 if they wanted both to continue using this feature and to play new games), again over fears of piracy.

So basically I think they both follow douchey business practices.

Huh? I frequently burn pirated DVDs/games with a Sony drive.
