Ok, so far, I've played FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FFT, and FF9 and I have to tell you that I have been very impressed with how the series has gone. The series started with the original medieval structure with mages and knights and theives if FF1, but since I haven't played that, I'm not going to give my opinion on the game. Then the series took an impressive turn with FF4. This game had impressive gameplay with very difficult battles and the first 5 person party I have ever seen. (If there was another game with this, don't criticize me for it, I haven't played them all) The game had completely unique characters that had their own unique abilities. Such as Kain and his dragoon ability (he kicks ***!) and Cecil with his cure ability as a paladin. Each character had the personality that made you favor them right away, and sad when they left the party for good, as this game had no system to change your final party. However, the sidequests were beneficial to the main plot and the increased difficulty found in the playstation version made this a good game. Here, I have no disagreement with Crescens about this game.
Now, on to FF5, this game was in my opinion, one of the best. This game again, had no party selection, but it didn't need it. The game had a unique advantage over FF4, instead of being stuck with just one character class for the entire game, which can tend to get boring, in FF5 you could change your character class! I found this to be a unique change as no previous game gave you even this much freedom with your characters. Along with the good one liner jokes in the game as well as good character personalities put this game in my favor. I found it even better than FF4, though they were both good games.
Onward to FF6. Probably my second favorite game in the series. This game blended technology with the medieval that originally caught everyone's attention. Every character had their own unique abilities and the game introduced the idea where you could customize your party with any character you wanted. Summons were also easy to obtain and spells were powerful, making it easy for a player of any skill level to master the game. I know this because this was my first and one of my favorite RPG's.
Now, is where the crap hits the fan. FF7: My favorite RPG that Crescens downgraded as being one of the worst Final Fantasy games ever. Ok, first of all, this game introduced a futuristic world that still kept the magical sense to it. You found twists and turns in the plot as well as some pretty cool villians like Sephiroth with his katana (who doesn't like that?). The characters were changing constantly through the story as the plot unfolded and you discovered their past. Along with some tough bosses like the Weapons and cool spells and summons like Bahamut Zero and Ultima, this made FF7 one of my favorite RPGs, and for this Crescens is going to go saying I'm wrong and I'm an idiot for liking the game. Dude, that just makes you a hypocrit. Besides that, you say that the characters have no personality even though you got people like Cid, Sephiroth and Tifa who make up the game based on their personalities, like in the flashbacks, so how are you going to say they have no personality when they make up a good deal of the game! How are you going to tell ME what games I can like and what I think they are. Anyway, this was an awesome RPG.
Now, FFT, one of the best Final Fantasy's ever come out, and I would have to agree with Crescens that it is one of the best RPG's ever. This game involved a good storyline along with a good cast of characters who could obtain any skill, but had certain strengths and weaknesses despite of their job. In order to get through most of the battles, you couldn't just rely on your character level, but also on your tactical strategy, therein the name Final Fantasy "Tactics." Along with unique and special sidequests beneficial to the game, and a special guest apperance by a FF character from another FF, this game is one of the best Final Fantasy games out there, though it's not good for a person just starting out in RPG's.
Now, I'd like to give an opinion of FF8 from what I've seen and heard from other people. Now Crescens has said that FF8 is the worst RPG eer made, and that you are wrong to disagree with him, and through that, he flamed over 500 people doing it saying they are "complete idiots" for liking the game. Now how the **** is he going to tell people they are idiots because of their opinion just because they don't agree with his ignorant understanding of video games. From what I've gathered, it seems like an interesting RPG. From what I've heard, it has fun mini games such as the card game, and the spelss aren't overly powerful like in every other Final Fantasy. Come on, if the spells are too powerful, it takes the fun out of the game. It doesn't matter if the damage should revolve around logic, it's not like Final Fantasy is logical anyway. However, one other upside I've heard, (correct me if I'm wrong) is that you can't overly power your characters as the final boss always remains two levels above you, which I find interesting because if it's true, it makes for a good final fight unlike if you were so powerful that the final boss couldn't even hurt you like in FF6. So, from what I've heard, FF8 seems like a half decent game that I might actually check out sometime.
FF9, a good RPG that brought back the medieval sense to Final Fantasy. This game starts out interesting with impressive mini games as well as the boss fights. This plot also had turns in it that you would never expect until it happens, then you start thinking back into the story to where they mentioned something about the turns you run into. Anyway, this game had inpressive sidequests that allowed you to gather good items, money, and even some ultimate weapons. This was a very good RPG that kept the series alive.
I have never played FF10, so I don't know what to say about that game. All I can say is that it did not have the medieval sense to it, but it lived up to its name as being a fantasy game in a futuristic world. The way you bought abilities seemed well plotted and blitz ball seemed awesome. Again, another game I'll try sometime.
In conclusion, with the new games coming out such as FF11 and FFX-2 and FF12, Final Fantasy is staying strong and the company is not as corrupt as he believes it to be. In fact, that company he thinks is corrupt brought him Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross that he loves so much, and they are also bringing him the new RPG by Enix that he is so desperate to buy. So what I'm trying to say is that Final Fantasy is still alive and staying strong as a good RPG series that is perfect for a player of any skill level. Also, this is a good review if you are looking at Crescens pessimistic review because he had nothing better to do at the time than to diss Final Fantasy. The series is alive and still strong and I can't wait for the new installments. If you have any opinions, I'd like to hear them, write me on the post. Final Fantasy: A totally awesome series!
