The following are a few concept layouts for the new DarkStorm we have been working on. We have agreed to post these since some would probably be interested in seeing them, and they don't give away anything involving the production of the game. You may wonder why there are crosshairs on these screens since this is an RPG, and that is because we have not yet built a system for rendering the 3D graphics we created. Basically we are using them with a free engine for displaying them, and the free engine happens to be for a shooter (lol, remember, just temporary). Also, the censored part on the edge of all the screens contains information which shouldn't be public (involving our development). Anyway, with these exceptions, the landscapes and locations are all our creation and are *very* early glimpses at what we are planning on constructing.

The Void (no, it isn't just a forum):

These are a couple screens of the entrance to the Void (very basic right now):

And this is the end of the Void, where players would be translocated to Earthia (the platform will obviously be something else):

This is how it appeared in the very early game:

Random Building (no specific location; doesn't have a sky, which is why it's kinda dark):

Stay tuned, however we don't plan on posting more screenshots for quite a while. I'm just showing that at least some progress is being made. TheSmile.gif

Addition: Incase there is confusion about what DStorm is planned to be, we are attempting to construct an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game).

Another Update Due To Confusion: DarkStorm will not be a shooter, the world shown in these screenshots was just rendered in the engine for a shooter so we could display them as would be seen in the game.

Banana Boy- Familiar
Alignment: Light
Xanthor Drathos - Sorceror
Class info:
Sorcerer: Like wizards, but bound to darkness. Sorcerers practice spells of destruction and darkness. Like wizards, they are physically weak, though can do massive damage if given the chance to cast a spell.
- Intelligence Effect (per point): Decreases EP consumption of abilities by 15
- Strength Effect (per point): Normal attack DP + 2
Hometown: Shral Valeron
Race: Dark Elves: Diverging into the path of Darkness at an undetermined date during the Second Age, Dark Elves have become one of the few true evil races in Earthia. They consider Undead to be below them, and scowl at all races and classes not allied with Darkness. While they are not known to hide in the shadows like other Dark races, they are probably one of the most capable of directly harnessing the dark powers of the world to do their bidding.

Me Spells
Sorcerer:

- Dark Grip (0): EC=5; DP=4: Surrounds the target with a dark mist, doing minor damage.

- Dimensional Ripple (200): EC=70; DP= 40; Effect = Stun: Target cannot take any actions or move: Attack spell that also stuns the target for 20 seconds. Will not take away the target's next turn in battle.

- DarkForce (300): EC=120; DP=75: Darkness crushes the target from all directions.

- Levitate (350): EC=200; Effect = Levitate: Prevents damage from ground based attacks as long as the target (anyone) is in the region.

- Suffocate (450): EC=200; DP=50 Each Turn For Following 3 Turns: The air is removed around the target, suffocating him/her. Does minor damage for three turns (along with additional attacks for the following two).

- Ground Shock (600): EC=250; DP=110: Will not affect levitated targets

- Dimensional Wave (800): EC=400; DP=160: The dimension is warped around the target, causing a large amount of damage.

- Evil Cyclone (1200): EC=500; DP=180: A temporary portal to the dark world opens, consuming the target in a cyclone of shadows, ultimately crushing him/her.

- Death's Warning (1200): EC=100; DP=0: Will cause great fear to the target and cause him/her to leave the location and go back into the general region. Will not affect Wizards.

-> Storm of Darkness (1500): EC=750; DP=260: The powers of the ancient sorcerer are summoned, showering the target in flames and consuming him/her in darkness.

- Summon Familiar (2000): EC=500; Effect = Summon a Familiar to travel/ Can do anything except attack or use abilities: Allows you to summon a familiar and send it to other areas. It cannot attack and will come back to you if attacked.

-> Dimensional Crack (2000): EC=1000; DP=400: A local form of Dimensional Storm targeting one character. The target temporarily experiences the effects of being caught between dimensions in this destructive spell.

- Destroy Light (2500): EC=2000; DP=HP of the summoned target (if the summoner is below your post count): Will defeat any summoned being of light which is under the control of someone of a lesser post count.

- Summoning of Destruction (3000): EC=2300; DP=750: The Sorcerer uses the powers of the ancients to conjure a local cataclysm.

- Dark Gate (3200): EC=800; DP=0: Will send a friendly target back to his/her hometown as an evacuation.

It won't be, it will be a third person RPG. It just happens that the engine we used to render the graphics in a game environment was that of a shooter (since we have not yet constructed DStorm's).

It will be the fantasy/sci-fi RPG that this forum is based on, nothing different. grnwink.gif

I can't wait for the game to come out, but I am sure that it will be worth the wait. These are some seriously nice pictures for the game. I was wondering how big this game world is supposed to be. It would appear that if the building seemed that big, then the entire world must be absolutely massive.

Is there a timeline for the production or release dates?

One of our focuses is to make the world as large and realistic as possible. I cannot say exactly how large we intend for this to be at this point (none in the development team can estimate right now), but we are aiming for at least 20 square kilometers initially, though I'm not sure if we will be able to launch with that or not. If it takes actual time to travel between regions, then I know we succeeded with our goals. We hope to provide players with the feeling of traveling through vast deserts, dense forests, large mountain ranges, endless fields, and much more. Unfortunately this severely eats up time and fizzles our hopes of having this game be downloadable... but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. grnwink.gif

No, but I will truthfully say that you shouldn't expect it before 2007... This is truly a massive undertaking, even for a decent-sized group of programmers and graphics artists. I will guarantee that CurvedSpace will be around that long though (unless something bad happens), so stick around and see where it goes. TheSmile.gif

Those screenshots look great Cspace. grnwink.gif You're doing a great thing here, this game looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I'm sure CurvedSpace will be very popluar when this game is launched and the site will get a ton of traffic. I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a website with guides and such for DarkStorm. bluetongue.gif

You're doing great work so far Cspace, thanks for doing this. TheSmile.gif

By the way, who else is working on DarkStorm with you?

Right now just a few friends in my school, we are kinda just messing around with it at the moment. In my first year of college I plan to begin actual work on it and form a team, but until then we are basically just trying things and writing up an extensive document for how everything will work.

I wanted to test gravity and defenestrated myself, and to my relief I found that Earthia has gravity (but it hurt a little, that was a pretty long fall) TheSmile.gif

Lol, I'm going to try that as soon as DarkStorm comes out. biggrinbandit.gif You've got to put in some glass though to add to the excitement. TheSmile.gif

How large are you planning to make the castle in Frionia?

Undetermined, but it should be quite large. Don't think it would be as large as the castle in Aderon though, but probably a little more open.

Sounds like everything is going to be pretty big. TheSmile.gif Big is good. bigcheek.gif

I'm guessing you're planning on making a bunch more NPC's everywhere? And will you make only a few quests to start off (like lead up to one big one in an update)?

Lol, I feel like I'm interrogating you too much. bluetongue.gif I'll just finish off with those questions. grnwink.gif

There will be a number of NPCs, however I can't say how the quests will work at the moment (we're working on something... unique... which we don't wish to be in the open).

If you insist. bluetongue.gif

Will you actually make a Great Library or just make it in a serparate section of the site under the DarkStorm category? It would be a lot of work if the Great Library was in the game.

And will you put things in (buildings, shops, or something) in the travelling areas like the Frozen Wasteland. If it's going to be as big as you want it to be, then people would need something to do along the way so they won't get bored. bluetongue.gif I'm guessing you'll put in some monsters, just wondering if you'd add in any special areas.

P.S. Got to go now, so no more questions. bluetongue.gif
