This thread has been around since January, is there any more news regarding the development yet, have you got a client and server yet?
When Darkstorm begins to work will there be alpha testing? That is once you have an animated chat room will we be able to play it and try new content as it is made? It would be nice if there was just a test area the size of lumbridge mabye that would gradually get more content for example add a poisonous mushroom that if you touck your health goes down which you can kill. Thats the kind of thing im going to do if I ever make my MORPG.

Oh by the way which code are you using C++ if you are thats cool im learning that.

Won't have a server for it for quite a while (will use our own computers for the gaming environment). We plan to have it up once we have at least one sponsor and things are beginning to come together, right now we are just testing various aspects of the game and writing the basic algorithms.

However, I will probably have some 3D models of various objects relatively soon. I've been working on some basic objects such as weapons and should have some available to view soon.

That is very likely because the more beta-testers there are, the better our chances of finding bugs would be. However, we may do so with mini-games instead of a growing world. We don't really want to start with a small and basic game and grow from there, we wish to hit the online gaming world with a full-fledged game. grnwink.gif

You can probably expect things like 3D maze games and arena-type games which test various aspects of the game's engine, but until we actually have beta-testers working on the main game it probably will not come together until near the release.

We're using C++ and DirectX 8 and 9.

sorry but i just read this and it looks cool so;

will this be (sort of) like runescape as in it is totally interactive?

will it be anything like the darkstorm forum thing(as in you post to move and fight and stuff). I mean obviously the place names will stay the same...whatever they are (i never got into the whole dstorm forum game Whatever_anim.gif ) but anyway looks great!

Well... In terms of the actual game, it is like Runescape in the sense that Runescape is like an MMORPG and slightly a D&D-styled game. However, Runescape is limited in functionality due to its basis as a browser-based game and the fact that Java does not have the same capabilities as other available languages and systems (great for certain things, but limited in others). I'm not going to try to really compare DStorm to other games but I will say that it will be interactive on more levels than Runescape.

There will obviously be skills, a PvP system, equipment (quested, made, and dropped by enemies), and player-to-player interaction in a first and third person 3D world of much greater size. However, unlike Runescape we will have a hybrid battle engine with a situational party system, true good/evil alignments (can be affected by class, race, origin, and actions, resulting in differing abilities and hostile NPCs), equipment abilities which can change, and a dynamic specialty/class system which is different than most RPGs. I cannot yet reveal the specifics for this, but we also will have a way for all equipment made by players to potentially be different and original.

Not at all, what we have now is a text-based game. What we are making is a MMORPG, you won't type commands or click links to move but will use your mouse and keyboard to interact with the world and improve your character actively.

... We'll see about that... grnwink.gif
