In the early 1960's, Kennedy said we would go to the moon in 10 years, and we did. Now Bush is saying we will go go Mars in 20 years. Obviously, such an edevour will be a very costly one. There are millions of people on this earth that are starving and have poor health. Should we spend our money on the space program or on those who are poor? I'll post my opinion after hearing a few of yours.

Mars Or Economic Equality What to go for?

I think that with the major problems going on right now, and with the massive cost of such a major project like going to Mars, we should pay off the national debt. It would free up a lot of money that is mainly being used for interest on the debt, and then, we could worry about a space program, after focusing on education, domestic security (police, fire), and the economy.
Of the two choices, I would select the economy. It is not the most important issue to date, but it is much more important than some space program.

Save the economy. Earth is working fine, why the bloody ... would we need a colony on Mars?
Somebody shoot me for using "bloody" for that situation ... I think OM is rubbing off on me.

United States Economey, after we heal that up then I would say send more probes to Mars. Sending humans is pointless, the risk of death, and what would we do? *Yup, we got to Mars first, lets see if you can, nana, haw haw.* That would be a waste of money...and hey, I could use the money.

The way I see it, until we have a colony on the moon, living off supplies shuttled from Earth, I don't think we should give a dam care. I mean, like Alpha said, look how many things Bush could do. He could start a big children's fund for crying out loud, maybe a food drive near the hungry, at least a few shelters for a homeless. Of course, there weren't many or any presidents who did stuff like that anyway...
