  • Movie in Progress!

    Posted 5 Oct 2011

My summer ended up being rather uneventful as far as "opportunities" and "work" goes. IMAX was too late-notice and expensive of a venture for me to take on. Maybe next summer. I'll think of last summer as my final grasp of childhood and home, since it is likely I will be working in New York or CA for next summer, and after I graduate.

Now for something exciting! I am wrapped with principle photography for my short film, "SNEAKS". Quick synopsis: A teenage boy begins encountering a strange light traveling through his neighborhood at night. As he feels the distance grow in his friendship due to the trends of growing up, he attempts to chase after the unknown in the night.

The film will be no longer than 15-minutes, and I am currently editing a "rough cut" of the film. After I get feedback, do some "pickup shoots", and do some fancier editing, then I will have a "fine cut" or "picture lock." This means I can get into mixing the sound for the projects (the sound effects and the music), and do color grading, which is my specialty.

I will make another blog entry when I have the poster made. ;)
  • An interesting start

    Posted 28 May 2011

Never had a summer start off quite like this one. Coming off a 20-credit tri-semester, I was given just one day of rest... Sunday. I can't seem to remember Sunday. Probably because starting on Monday, I had to rise at 5:30am, drive 40 minutes to a construction site, and work until 3:00pm, drive all the way back home, and then do my training run. Needless to say, this took it's toll Friday, when I woke up with needling pain in my ankles and Achilles area. With a job that involves never sitting at all EVER, this led to a rough day. However, I finished my job, at the end of the week, and it was supposed to take two weeks to accomplish.

I've now spent my whole day just laying on a couch, icing my ankles, and trying to get over a bit of sickness that I woke up with, probably due to the abnormal hours I've been putting my body through this week.

So for the rest of the summer? I have plenty of my own work that I want to get into, although I'm currently trying to intern at IMAX. A bit of a longshot due to the location, but it's worth the attempt.
  • A new summer awaits

    Posted 17 May 2011

As I procrastinate with my finals, I think about the summer that awaits me. Despite my concerns of finding an internship for the summer, I am fully content on residing at home for this one, and picking up whatever work I find there. The next year awaits my preparation, and I would like to take it seriously in the next coming months. Autumn is specifically awaiting my movie plans, because I will be directing my first film then. It also may be my only one during college, so I desire it to be something extra special.

Next school year also means my hopeful return to competing in track and field. My academic schedule has blown up this past year, sending me on hiatus for months. And that scheduling trend shows no signs of dieing down for the next school year, which places more importance on what kind of shape I can get myself into during this summer season. Since it looks like I will be home once again, I've begun to reminisce the old routes I ran while in high school, and am now eager to get back to them. But I'm still not even in-shape enough for that! I hope the first weeks of exhaustion and soreness go by without injury, so that I can sail smoothly along the old trails for the remainder of the summer.

So what does all of this mean for you, the reader? I'm not one to update anyone on what I'm doing constantly... hence, my blog title: "Excerpts". Excerpts, to me, are stories. I love stories, which is evident in the educational path I am taking in filmmaking. So I'd only like to tell stories, instead of just updates on what happened to me. Within my entries you will read about my ideas, and sometimes how I have acted upon them. And because I will be working on my script, I may be looking for input! All comments will be responded to.

I will not naively promise an entry a day. That concept makes no sense to me. Who wants to read some dribble that was squeezed out? I will promise an entry whenever I have a story to tell you, or an idea to share. I expect more stories from my training, and more ideas from my pre-production for the movie.

And with that, I will grant you a picture of me trying to kiss a sea lion.
