Sorry for my absence, heh, circumstances kept me completely off the internet for about four days. Appears that I missed the end of the Garden Festival.

Anyway, the Garden Festival is over now and I got some things up-to-date (thanks for all the GW screenshots thumb.gif ). Let's focus on growth and events for a bit, no need for the events to end just because the Garden Festival is over. bluetongue.gif

We have the holidays coming up, that could be another excuse for events if you need one. grnwacko.gif

********************************************************

Events are only a piece of the situation though, let's pull things together and discuss the future. The community at this point depends on SeeD, and SeeD depends on the factions. While we can and should find new outlets for the community, I don't think anyone denies that if we have healthy factions we'll be better-off as a whole. This means that there's a calling for leaders.

We need leaders who are willing to once again spark the fire we had in 2001 and 2002. To make our members proud to call themselves "SeeDs" in the games of our factions, to seek growth both in and out of such games, and to once again have lofty goals that are truly out of reach at the time of their mention.

Fitting, seeing how this started happening five years ago. The efforts of a few members built the foundation we still have today. What do you want to build for tomorrow? How do you want to be remembered when SeeD succeeds well beyond the limitations of today, and we meet the goals we set at this time?

We have the foundation for factions to grow and interact. We have a community. We have SeeD, and we have CurvedSpace. Where do you want to fit into the equation? Where do you want us to go, and what goals do you think we should have? How can you help to get there, or how can you help to organize others to get there?

Let's discuss it now, and then we will move on it instead of almost move on it. Things may be good right now, but I can still see a brighter future.

What say you? eek13.gif

Well, obviously we need to work on our recruiting skills. We've grown a lot, but there's real potential to expand this community beyond what it currently is. I think if we get more people from runescape, wow, and guildwars, we can improve our situation. If all else fails, we can switch the global and supermod colors to appease Maxi. Actually, what's the difference?

Fixed. We need more sources of actual people. Though in second thoughts, there's a fair share of unmentionables in GW aswell.

Oh, and I think you missed what the orange comment was about. Future, orange.. Aw forget it.

Made me lol uncontrollably. Unknown reasons, it isn't really that funny.

That aside.. Recruitment seems to not be as simple as just running into a game and spamming "Join SeeD. *Website*".

The best methods I've found for actual recruitment, to gain longtime, lasting members, was to actually get to a close friendship with people, and then just say "Hey! I'm in this guild, and I think you'd like it. Care to check it out?"

God knows I did that with Ruckus more than ten times. bluetongue.gif

But here tomorrow, my new computer will arrive. I shall be able to venture into new games and attempt this strategy of assimilating others into our UniClan.

Voltron. He was a cool member. We need him back.

What say YOU?!

Btw Maxi. The future is purple.

I would really like to try and get a first person shooter kind of thing going on. 2007 is going to see some serious games like Unreal Tournament 2007, Crysis, and Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway. These would just be a few games that would be exciting to play. If things work out hopefully the guys over at Epic, Ubisoft, and Crytek will make it so these games work on a major range of computers, starting from the entry level all the way to the hard core SLI/Crossfire systems. Also with the Playstaion 3 and the Wii finally out, things are going to be very interesting on the multiplayer side of gaming. Even though the next gen is here, I really hope we can really expand out into games beyond MMORPG and try getting into more action/adventure related games.

But to help out with the expansion of seed, I'm going to try and make a more signatures for the members so they can use them and be proud to be a member of seed. Things are looking more positive on the side of Balamb with Nate, and Iamthebest heading the events committee. I would like to see more proactive approaches brought on by other members. To do this I will private message several of the members asking them what they would like to do and what they want to see happen in Balamb. So other than that, not much else I can do.

Hm in my opinion we shouldn't really expand any further yet.

I think we should concentrate on the factions we've got for a while. Get more active members, get events going etc before we start moving on to other games.

We really need to get more members in Runescape (no comments needed bluetongue.gif), Guild Wars and perhaps WoW. These (my opinion) are our biggest guilds but also need the biggest work. We have a basis in which to work from (active members in the faction etc) but we need to make it bigger and better. This needs to happen before we start new factions.

I suggest that we concentrate on one faction at a time (Psst, do RS first ShiftyEyes_anim.gif), get it active with events and such then move onto another and so on.

We also need to convince people that making events or recruiting doesn't kill you bluetongue.gif

Meh my thoughts anyway bluetongue.gif

I agree with Charlie. Right now, our strength lies with RPGs, not FPSs. If we were to expand into FPS to quickly, we'd create a rift between the two. Lot's of people from FPS tend to be more 'hardcore' and like to put down people who play wimpy, loser-games like RPGs. bluetongue.gif Let's try building up Guild Wars and Runescape again.

I'm both an role play gamer and first person shooter gamer. I agree that the Runescape, Guild Wars and WoW need to be improved upon. I just hope that we will be able to create a fps shooter faction. For now I am going to stick to what I do best, thats gaming and doing what I think is best.

Well, get more people like yourself who are cool with both. That way, we won't have that big divide between fps and rpg.

Ok, these are good ideas. We shouldn't necessarily just focus on one faction, since that would only allow a specific group to really be a part of things, but I agree that we should focus on a select group of them. So, what factions do we have right now that seem suitable?

-------------------------------------------------
- The factions in yellow are necessary in my opinion.

- The factions in cyan are promising, given the right circumstances and a little more effort.
-------------------------------------------------

Runescape: No doubt about it, this is where we came from and we have a lot of potential here. I know that many have moved onto different games, but we can and should still boost activity here. Since many of our current members have left the game, we'll need to seek new members to get the faction moving.

Guild Wars: There are a lot of possibilities here and many of our members play the game. We need to focus here as well, as many seem to agree, but we shouldn't just rely on those already in SeeD. The member cap looms above us so we'll need to recruit more methodically here, otherwise we will need to form our own alliance of internal guilds. That wouldn't be ideal unless DoA can, first, become active by everyone's standards.

World of Warcraft: This is a tough one... We have a lot of potential here, but unfortunately there aren't many that want to assist with the WoW factions. By that I don't mean support on the community, but support in the game. The biggest thing holding the WoW factions back are those pulling against common servers. It's fine if members wish to be active on different servers, but let's stop trying to pull every newcomer to every other WoW player's server and instead actually allow for SeeD to have a common server(s). We have a faction on a PvP server and a faction on a Normal server. Final F8 and I have worked a bit with the faction on the Normal server, and I know that given the in-game support of SeeD it will succeed... But without SeeD's presence, members who join through the game (of which there have been over seventy) are very reluctant to see what we're about. As a result the faction is isolated. If we can break that isolation this faction can seriously take off, and I will come back if such interest exists. If there isn't a presence there, however, the faction will probably remain silent from the forums' perspective.

EverQuest II: This has proven to be very compatible with our faction system. While the EQ2 faction was active, a decent number of members actually registered and posted here. They saw what SeeD was about and were in general more interested than those in other games I tried. The problem? Guilds physically level, and it'll take a decent amount of work to make the guild appealing beyond those we actually interact with in-game. Given no other factors getting in the way, I plan to re-establish this faction in the future. It is, however, not a short-term goal.

Star Wars Galaxies: We do have a slight presence there, but until they change the guild system around to be more suitable in our circumstances, we should probably wait on doing anything in SWG.

Maplestory and GunZ: These seem to get popular in cycles. Next time members get in the mood to organize something in either, let's try to get the community's attention because I know that a lot have played them at one time or another.

Age of Empires: This seems to be the most promising faction for the RTS folks.

As For Shooters...: I'd recommend that members figure out what games we have in common. A lot of us are into shooters, but I don't think anyone really has a handle for which games most of us play.

*************************************************

Just thought I'd throw these out there, but I'm sure that others have ideas of their own. We should probably start discussing where each of us are most active, then we can get some organization coming together.
