Yeah, I agree the fanboyism is a bit excessive. Hopefully they'll grow out of it eventually. I'd buy a DS over a PSP, I think. A few of my friends have them already, so it'd be more likely we'd buy the same games and be able to play online with it. One of my friends has a PSP, but he and I don't usually have the same choice in games.

Also looking into the future there will be Wii connectivity, which is what my GBA got used for 90% of the time. But mainly I've just been more impressed with the games on the DS, there just seem like more that would be fun. Not to say that the PSP is a bad system, but I haven't seen much at all that sounds like it'd appeal to me. As far as all the extra functions go, I'd rather just have my laptop with me.

I really think PSP is better then DS. Just cuz it offers more then the controls arent all over the place. Trying 2 play DRIV3R was a pain on XBox, but playing games on the DS is worse. OK trying 2 keep ur hands on all buttons on DS is hard and also the touch screen 2.

I really think PSP is better then DS. Just cuz it offers more then the controls arent all over the place. Trying 2 play DRIV3R was a pain on XBox, but playing games on the DS is worse. OK trying 2 keep ur hands on all buttons on DS is hard and also the touch screen 2.

Yeah, I agree the fanboyism is a bit excessive. Hopefully they'll grow out of it eventually. I'd buy a DS over a PSP, I think. A few of my friends have them already, so it'd be more likely we'd buy the same games and be able to play online with it. One of my friends has a PSP, but he and I don't usually have the same choice in games.

Also looking into the future there will be Wii connectivity, which is what my GBA got used for 90% of the time. But mainly I've just been more impressed with the games on the DS, there just seem like more that would be fun. Not to say that the PSP is a bad system, but I haven't seen much at all that sounds like it'd appeal to me. As far as all the extra functions go, I'd rather just have my laptop with me.

i love it, i find it a great portable media centre, and as for the original specs on the first page on this topic the stnadard battery doesn last 2 hours. Try more like 6 for movies and game and 8-9 for music. U can get even more out of it if you turn down the screen brightness or swtich it off while ur listenging to music. I also got hte PSP the day it came out, so yeah. I do find it a better overall system not jsut for games but for other things too. My sister has a ds and its not too bad i do like the touch screen but its still no match for the PSP in my opinion, they both have a great selection of games, and old favourites are ogign to be on both systems, i cant wait to get ff7 when it comes out on it

in the latest update for hte psp, well acutalyl a few before they made it so you cna play games online, liek xbox live or all that stuff. I have need for speed carbon and i play with peopel form germany and france and all that lol. It's really an amazing system and i find that it is more versatile because it can be upgraded and expanded and all that. There is a camera attachment for it and all that too. It also functions as a translater too, so its not just a console its a very coo gadget. I think the only reason the ds is good is because of the touch screen, and the known games. At the start the PSP's time the only problem i had was with the memory card because they were so expensive. But now as sony releases new sizes the next release beign an 8 gb stick, they have gotten cheper and cheaper. I bought a brand new 4gb memory stick for $50. And the good thing is as the sizes go up sony can just make a software upgrade so the system can support the larger size, i think that the upgrading is seriously one of its great features, it allows it to be very versatile. I cbf typing anymore lol but if oyu wnat ot know more about the PSP from someone who has had one for almost 2 years ask me i do know a fair bit about it. As for the DS i do know a little bit coz i steal my sister sometimes lol just to play pokemon haha

Well, a main argument I'm seeing here is that PSP is better because it has media functions. Well, with about AU$40-50 (not including the storage device [Micro SD, SD, etc]) you can purchase a flash card that allows you to play unofficial games (also known as 'homebrew' games) and also programs that let you view video and listen to music as well (Moonshell is an example of this).

(As a side note, these devices are infamously used to also download official games and play them illegally. CurvedSpace in no way whatsoever condones these activities and any attempt to do something like this should be done at your own discretion and risk.)

With the recent release of the DS expansion pack, you can also access the internet as well. Flash cards that use the GBA port (known as Slot-2 Flash Cards) can get a patch in order to make it act like an expansion pack. (Who says you can't upgrade a DS? )

For some reason, people seem to think the DS is for kids. Sure there are a fair number of kid-friendly games like Mario, but why does that seem to apply to all the games that they release? (I'm sure kids would love to play Phoenix Wright... Then again maybe they would cause Phoenix Wright is ownage. To the max.) Here's a page that does this argument for me (although it is slightly more aimed at Nintendo in general rather than directly at the DS).

"PSP has a better choice of games than the DS", well, that is up to personal opinion really. It's all based on the kind of games you like and how quickly you get bored of games. (But seriously, Phoenix Wright owns all.)

The control factor? Why is the DS suddenly harder to control now that you add a touch screen? The touch screen is the most intuitive control in the DS. If you have trouble using a touch screen then well... I really have nothing to say to you. Ignoring the touch screen, the DS and PSP have very little difference in button layout (I believe PSP has an analog stick and that's about it for differences. That stick looked like a speaker to me at first, honestly.)

Graphics. True, PSP has better graphics than the DS. But graphics are worth zilch if the gameplay isn't there to back it up. So again this area is more personal opinion and somewhat moot (I personally know some people that enjoy playing text-based games... ).

So in reality, there is very little difference in the two consoles. If you want to list significant differences:
PSP: Better graphics, analog stick, built in media functions
DS: Cheaper, touch screen, media functions can be obtained for a total of AU$70-90 but still is cheaper overall than the PSP

So it really all comes down to what games you want to play. If you want to go play some GTA and Gran Turismo, then by all means, go buy the PSP. If you want to play Mario, Pokemon, Metroid, Zelda, Phoenix Wright, Kirby and all the other classic Nintendo games, then buy the DS.
