As much as this is rather unlikely, i guess i'll sign. There have been rumours flying around the undernet for ages, with no factual background.
It wouldn't be the first time i signed a silly petition and chances are this one has more ground then the "Make and FFX-3" petition

You didn't sign a petition for a FFX-3? I'm impressed.
Darkness, FFVIII gameplay mechanics were broken... Badly.
VII probably isn't my favourite, but it's a very good game. However as many people have said online petitions are fairly futile. I expect sooner or later they might well remake it, recently they've been showing far more interest in remaking old FF games than in actually producing new ones. They definitely like money, so it's probably just a matter of time.
In the meanwhile, I think some people have released mods for the PC version which update the character models in the field? I haven't tried it out personally, but if the graphics are getting to you and you have it on PC that might be worth investigation.
