definition of pure?

what exactly is the definition of a pure? because people were mining (as was I) and they were talking about how they were pures and stuff and I said "so am I im a mage" after I had said that they all laughed and said I was a stupid noob because I cant be a mage pure if I mine.

Pures in RSClassic were anyone with their hp higher than their combat or like, magic higher than combat etc.

Nowadays its defined as basically having 1 defense and 1 prayer etc.
