Bestiary - Animals & Beasts

Baarloq

Range: Anywhere at sea
Danger: Hostile

Description: A baarloq is a threat to all ships. They are massive scaled beasts that have a constant appetite, and will destroy a ship to sink its food supplies. They can also become relentlessly angry, and enter a sort of berserk state in which case it will follow a ship and its sailors until either it is killed or the ship's crew is killed. Be careful near land, because a baarloq has a tendency to even take the pursuit out of water.

Common Types:
  • Baarloq
  • Fel-Baarloq

------------------------------------------------------

Reknosk

Range: Potentially anywhere
Danger: Extraordinary Danger

Description: A reknosk is often mistaken as a sort of undead demon, but in actuality a reknosk is not undead despite its many exposed bones. All reknosks are ultimately under the control of The Fallen, and therefore they can potentially appear anywhere to do his bidding. Unless an Avendil has a complete understanding of arcana, and is very capable of fighting, it will be a lost cause to attack a reknosk... Often the best decision when you see one is to simply run.

Common Types:
  • Reknosk
  • Lesser Reknosk
  • Fiery Reknosk
  • Shadowed Reknosk

------------------------------------------------------

Demon

Range: Potentially anywhere
Danger: Epic Danger

Description: A true demon is a being from another plane of existence, and they almost always have no master. For these reasons they are very rarely seen anywhere on Earthia. That's a good thing, because demons are perhaps one of the worst foes an Avendil would ever face. In fact, there are no known cases of a demon actually being defeated. However, they are not immortal and can theoretically be felled in battle. Due to their danger, even the Valeron have no intentions to explore the demons' realm.

Common Types:
  • Demon
  • Ancient Demon

------------------------------------------------------

Dragon

Range: Secluded places
Danger: Extraordinary Danger

Description: The dragons of Earthia are hidden in the furthest reaches of wilderness so they are rarely accidentally found. Not all dragons are immediately hostile, but great care must be taken by anyone who wants to be a dragon hunter. The dragons vary widely in their specific capabilities, some even with affinity for arcana. They can also be social, and some believe that they may even have a language. There are also some who believe that the dragons come from another realm, but there is little evidence of this being true. Some dragons are written of in stories over the ages, such as the legendary Draknosk of Lunara, and Hav-Darun of the Caeriu Hills.

Common Types:
  • Dragon
  • Shadowed Dragon
  • Winged Dragon

------------------------------------------------------

Drake

Range: Around riftlands
Danger: Passive

Description: The small, winged creatures known as "drakes" have a variety of appearances. They always have affinity with greater forces of the universe, and are most commonly found with arcanist powers. Some have other powers, however, such as those of the warden, geomancer, enchanter, and telepath. They gather where there exists strong arcane power, such as in the so-called "riftlands" where portals exist. While the drakes are passive, they range from weak to extraordinarily powerful. Never judge a drake by its size.

Common Types:
  • Scaled Drake (like a very small winged dragon)
  • Serpent Drake (winged snake)
  • Feathered Drake (winged "feathered serpent")
  • Night Drake (like a large moth)
  • Grove Drake (like a large butterfly)

------------------------------------------------------

Tiamat

Range: Unknown
Danger: Epic Danger

Description: A tiamat is huge and extremely dangerous. There aren't really any words to describe just how powerful a tiamat is. They resemble winged dragons, but with two heads, and they are so big that even most buildings provide no resistance. They are also very hostile, and will destroy anything that gets in their way. Well, at least that is what the legends say. There have been no confirmed sightings of a tiamat in this realm.

Common Types:
  • Tiamat
