Worlds, Realms, Regions, and Locations:
This may seem confusing at first, but this is more terminology than a process. Nothing to stress over, but something to be familiar with.
- Worlds are either planets, moons, satellites, or alternate dimensions/planes of existence. Some examples are Earthia and Lunara. Planets are connected by the Space connection region, and dimensions will be connected by another region once unlocked (look for clues, the quest will not be presented in plain view or by an NPC conversation; the first clues could already exist, be sure to check the Library and see if certain entries can be pieced together with the actual game world).
- Realms are basically continents or other major divisions of a world. Some examples are Telanidor, Corroria, and Valeron. Realms do not exist on any worlds with regions or towns as their top layer of forums. Generally (though possibly not always on a certain world(s)...), realms are connected by sea and air connection regions.
- Regions are the forums containing locations and cities. An example of a region is the Aderonian Plains. Any sub forum of a realm is considered a region.
- Locations are places within a region (technically now including cities as well). Two examples of locations are Aderon and the Garden of Aderon. All layers of forums within a region are considered locations; in certain complex regions, these locations could be in many layers.
- Sea vessels may travel into the sea region from a port. Airships may travel into the air region from a skyport. Starships may travel directly into the space region from a starport, into the air region from a skyport, and into the space region from the air region.
Movement:
- When moving to another region, write a thread saying "Leaves -region-" (like in Aderon, say "Leaves Aderon" or another equivalent). You do not have to say where you are going, though unless "invisible" you must post where you enter (like "Enters Zolandor"). Unless you have a mount which allows otherwise, you must travel along "connection regions". These allow travel between regions, realms, and worlds. Within regions and locations, unless a certain layer of forums includes a connection region (for example there will be a connection region inside Zolandor), one can just jump from place to place (though should still have movement topics, your character is not present in all locations at once).
- The time requirement for travel through a region has been removed. This means that you don't need to wait, you just need to post as you move.
- If you have a companion (either summoned or a secondary character) that travels with you, please include that in the title (and possibly body) of the movement thread. Say something like "Fred and Sparky leave Zolandor".
- If you have control over a companion remotely (like in the case of a Necromancer, a skeleton can move around independently), if you want you can control your companion in the same way as you would with your own character. They don't need to travel together.
- To "sign off", you should either leave a region and not enter one (enter one when you get back) or move to a sanctum in your hometown. Otherwise you are still technically where you were when you left and can be attacked while you're gone. If you notice a character idle in a region, you are allowed to attack him/her if of an attackable alignment.
- If you come across a character who you wish to attack, even if the person is not online, you may attack the character at will if he/she is an enemy of yours. After your initial attack, if a response is not provided for ten minutes you no longer need to wait for a response to attack again (no turns, just pummel the poor character).
- If somehow you get stuck in a location (through a dead quest or some change to the locations trapping you), you may move directly to your hometown.
Sanctums:
- Sanctums protect those in their hometown upon entrance. For example, if an enemy is entering your hometown and you have nowhere to go, you may enter the Sanctum and you will be protected from all harm. You cannot attack from a Sanctum though, and this includes arrows and spells. There is no limit to how long a character can wait for you to exit though, so be careful when resorting to entering your Sanctum. You may not use Sanctums in towns which are not considered your hometown; If you have no hometown, you have no Sanctum.
- A sanctum is marked by its description (will say "sanctum"). |
