Starting Out

- "DarkStorm Classic" Reference -

Welcome to DarkStorm!

DarkStorm is a roleplaying game conducted on CurvedSpace, based on the game Age of Arcana that we are producing. This is a twisted world of good, evil, advanced technology, and vast mystery, where you can roleplay as any character you desire. When it comes to the game, however, you may become a little bit overwhelmed because so many specifics exist in the rules and there are so many aspects of your character(s). In actuality it's not that bad, and to get started, I am listing all you really need to know...

  • Become a little familiar with the classes and races. You need to choose a class and race to make a character. Don't worry about choosing the wrong combination, you can switch things around later.
  • Your character's stats. They are fairly straightforward, just check the "Your Character" page for a reference. Don't worry about messing something up here either, you can change the stats later.
  • To move around, you have to move along connection regions. Just post topics along the lines of "Enters *Location*", "Passing Through", or anything along those lines.
  • If you don't get involved in a war, you don't have to worry about other players attacking you for the most part. However, if you don't get involved in a war, you can't really attack other players either.
  • Battles go by turns. ">" symbols next to certain abilities mean that an ability requires more turns to use (one extra turn per ">" character). Damage is calculated by your strength and your weapons, unless you use an ability. If you use an ability, do what the ability says. More than two characters can be involved in a battle. That's basically the battle system for you.
  • If your character dies, nothing is lost unless something is staked. Ships can be called again, your equipment stays with you, and your stats remain the same. The only effect of dying is that you get a quick trip to your hometown's sanctuary. If you don't have a hometown, you get a quick trip to Zolandor (not its sanctuary).
  • Battles can be roleplayed, ignoring all rules and stats if desired. It must be stated that a battle is roleplayed at its beginning. Battles cannot be purely roleplayed for anything involving the wars or quests, but can technically happen anywhere else if everyone involved consents to it. If someone dies, he/she may be sent to his/her hometown, but it is not required.

Those are the basics. While I would highly recommend that you check through the rules, if the above is all you know, you can easily exist in the game. Just don't get overwhelmed, a lot of the rules are common sense or terminology.
