Okay, let me give you my opinion on telepathy.

When you look at a shoal of fish, or a flock of birds, or even a mob of people, doesn't there seem to be a certain 'organisation'? Like, a mob, it is leaderless, orderless, yet it acts as an effeicent, even dangerous, being. Surely there must be some sort of communication other than the five primary senses to make these groups operate? Gimme your ideas. biglaugh.gif

well, for the mob, i don't think it is actually telepathy. i think it's just a bunch of people with a common goal.
the birds just use teamwork, tyhat, and they are used to the pattern, i think.
and the fish, that's just unorginized fish who are going to the same place
This was totally out-dated.
Now it's updated.
I think?
Yeah.

....
Nice.

I have a friend whose into telepathy. He trains too. There are books on telepathy, people who train telepathy and those who claim they can use it. I beleive it's possible, i've never seen any real evidence but he did do one stunt which altered my view a little. Could have been a clever trick though.

Anyway he has a blog or a site, im not sure what it is. I'll have to dig it up for everyone later.

telepathy that people actually practice and claim to have some command over is just a way for people to make money. particularly if they're apt at making vague statements and into wearing heavy eye shadow.

with the flocks, personally i think thats just the animal instinct (and correct use of some little organ near the brain whose name ive gone and forgotten) that we 'civilised' humans have lost.

as for telepathy itself, im really not sure what i think of it. but i will say that the mind is not a book, to be opened and invaded at will. you cant hear other peoples thoughts for a reason....

Considering alot of our brains are not even used... and some people claim to have telepathy... i think its somewhere locked in our unused brain areas! and we just have to know how to remember or work it out...
Now has a nice new shiny computer, now all i need is my mos back.

I still disagree with you all (well, the ones that said it was teamwork).

Yes, possibly, some of the fish/bird stuff might have to do with eye interactions, i.e 'he is going right, I will go right aswell.' But I still think that part of this is telepathy, too little communication is made.

Oh, maybe we should properly define telepathy. You all seem to think it is mind-reading, but it is far from it. Telepathy is communcation between minds through a non-sensory or unknown channel. That means it is not body communication, verbal communication or contact communication. Did you know only a small percent of human to human communication is verbal? I doubt body and contact count for much.

Like, I was listening to these Chinese students converse on a bus at school today, and I looked at this kid sitting next to me. When he looked at me, I was certain that he was listening to them too. This may not sound like much, but I am pretty sure it was a good example of telepathy (or eavesdropping, one or the other bluetongue.gif ).

I don't really know. Darkie is the paranormal expert, not me. If it feels like someone else telling you in the dream it could be. So many people seem to experience that same phenomenon, me being one of them. Look in the 'freaky happenings' topic, it has a lot of talk about future dreaming.

it's in your facial expressions. subtle changes in the facial expressions correspond with some emotions/thoughts. for example, on the bus (Nuu), you might have looked at that guy with some sort of questioning look, however subtle, on your face, and that guy possibly looked back at you with an expression that hinted at "yes". or, you might just have looked at him without any expression, but he looked at you with some alarm in his face, which alerted you to the likelihood that he was listening in and was alarmed because he was just discovered.

if you disagree, then take some time to think about this: you ask someone a favor. he responds, "yeah, okay." consider his facial expression; if it is mostly blank or even smiling, you would take that to mean that he agrees to your request. however, if his expression contains unmistakeable sarcasm, then you would know that he's saying "no."
this is possible even without a change in the tone of his voice. try it yourself sometime.

That sounds like the best explanation so far. What about mobs then? Could that be telepathy?

you mean human mobs, or animal ones?

with animals, i think Darkdream is close to the mark. animals whose physical qualities somehow enabled them to socialize better survived better, and therefore over the generations these social skills have been ingrained into them physically. it's not telepathy, it's innate instinct.

for humans, the answer is even easier. humans have logic, and thus they can predict what other people might do, and act accordingly. it's simply the power of logical prediction, not telepathy, that allows for such coordination in organizations.
