Wars, natural disaters etc. have been going on since the beginning of people and time. Now they are just more public, people become more aware of what's going on, and jump to conclusions.

Leftyy has a point, many things like this have happened for many years now. People just make more of a deal of it since news is widespread and everywhere nowadays. Also, since ancient Mayan and Egyptian calendars point to the end of the world to be 2012, many people are worried about that. The Mayans have accurately predicted many natural events thousands of years in advance (no, not political events, no one can predict those thousands of years in the future bluetongue.gif ). One other thing that may point to the world ending in 2012 is what Pope John Paul II reportedly said as he was sick and dying. He said that the pope after the one succeeding him would be the Antichrist. This makes sense as the current pope is in his 80s, which means he most likely will die soon, possibly by 2012. Then the new pope/antichrist will take over. The times seem right. Just hope I scared you all grnwink.gif .

Well, there is an easy way to stop the Antichrist becoming Pope. DON'T CHOOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HORNS AND APPEAR OUT OF THE EARTH. Don't you think the Cardinals would be able to work that out? biglaugh.gif

Another thing that contributes is that the earth is more densley populated now, meaning that disasters which killed a few hundred 100s of years ago, may now kill 1000s.

yeah...our poulation increase is beyond exponential rate.

and also...it would not suprise me if there was such a type of buhdism...buhdism has a very good tactic for spreading its core religion and that is to intergrate with and adopt customs of the dominate beliefes where ever it gos so as to be more apealing.(the core that god is in all of us, all life is deserving, and acceptance of more then one path to enlightegnment allows it this leisure, as it is so agreable with most religions).

christs second comming...well for me to believe in that I would have to believe that he left here son of god, and to believe that I would have to believe that he actualy died on the cross for our sins, and for that...that he died on the cross(which I don't).

given the possible wrong interpretation of the word holy grail and the evidence of the templar knights along with the illuminates convertion into the american style of free masonry...well to much evidence against him actualy dying on the cross and even the testimants speack against it in round about way in my opinion.

at any rate the end of the world is always comming lol....the aseem (desert hebrew sect of old) held out in the desert for what? 400 years believeing it was close at hand?

things like 9/11 being referd to as one of the signs is very out there...it takes a bible passage that talks about how the trade center of the world(in refrence to the city of rome litterally) will fall and the world will faine weeping but do nothing....it was turned into a mediphore for 9/11 by the church...and that passage mentions nothing of what rome (if new york and the trade centers represent rome ) does in the after math to the best of my recelection.

which means that it aplies to most of the falling of most major cities for the last 2000 years lol.

like alot of peopel have said now...

- population increase.

- the better rate of exchange of information.

- the glib nature of the words them selves.

these all lend to what ever time you live in being able to say the end is near. If you take this stuff litteraly and don't read to deeply in it then it is actually very specific at points...but in reality i think it gives a good example of chaos theory, describes well the effect of natural disasters, and gives good advice on how to handle them more then anything.

this stuff was left for a revolution that never came to fruition. we only know about it b ecuase it was found here and there. it was not preserved well and known well from those times on becuase people disgarded it when their uprisisng never came lol.

they expected jesus to be a military leader and he wasn't...why do you think they went with barabus in the end...cuase he was and they decided that is what they needed.

in a way though...he was a military leader...his words, actions and memory, led to mellenia of persecution and death.

hmmm i am christian but i don't think jesus is gonna come back any day soon. Scientists have predicted that the world is gonna end in milions of years when the suns rays are gonna get hotter becasue all the gases we release from factories and stuff will make the ozone layer collapse. So there is millions of years that jesus can come. Amyway all i have to say is that i don't believe that Jesus is gonna come anytime soon. These happenings are just a coincedence that they are happening within a couple of years. Its just that we are having some bad luck biglaugh.gif

It's an interesting point to think on, but I'm not in the least bit worried. There's always some sort of doomsday prophecy about to be fulfilled, and to this day I haven't seen a single giant fireball come down from above.

With all the bible speaks about judgement day, as well as all the other ancient religions and cultures, it's pretty easy to find coincidences between current events and predictions. People will go to extraordinary lengths to match events to prophecies, and with such a degree of communication in the world there's bound to be something.

I'm atheist, but while Religion may not have been perfect all the time (holy wars, the Crusades and so forth), I freely admit that it serves a social function, and especially did in the past. For that reason I try not to put down the beliefs of others when possible.

Oh, and Buddhism is sort of... Half religion and half lifestyle choice, there's more to it than Buddha.

For thousands of years people have been 'predicting' the world will end. And you know what? They are always wrong.

There's logical explanations for everything that's happening; global warming and oil rigs in the gulf are making the water in the Gulf of Mexico heat up, which is making stronger and stronger hurricanes.

Iraq and Afghanistan were overdue for wars, it's about time someone is doing something about the problems over there.

The world isn't ending anytime soon, face it.

Well, even if the Earth is worse than before, which I don't believe, the planet should be being ripped apart. Millions dying, natural disasters destroying almost every city on the planet. Only then Jesus should come back. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan probably aren't enough. It's, like, a world war worse than WWI and WWII combined.

Besides, why worry about it when you can do absolutely nothing about it? Even the angels don't know when so how can we?

Pointless Note: How is a seven headed dragon supposed to be trick billions of people? The Anti-Christ is more likely to be an angelic-looking person so he can get more people to follow him. After all, it's been shown with presidents that good looking leaders have more followers than any ugly one.

It's a shame almost every religion has at some point tried to kill all others. Often against the religion's actual teachings. sad.gif

Pompeii for example. Tens (or more) of thousands died then, but now, we would evacuate Pompeii. Plus, now we know how to defend ourselves against some natural disasters so they kill fewer. People know fire drills, they know where to go when an earthquake happens (I hope) and we are prepared for almost any disaster so it DOESN'T kill as many as before. If people hadn't gone and recued people from the Tsunami, thousands more could be dead!

Also, notice that the wars happened because of Bush, and it's not like a world war (knock on wood) and also, I have to wonder, why most of these natural disasters are happening to the US...? eek7.gif

I think I know what Snowy is talking about....I'm a Catholic...Yet....I hate catholicism...I hate every little tiny bit about it...Everything from the little pedophile priests to the new pope supporting the gay marriage law. Don't mean to offend anybody, but the day Ratzinger dies, is the day I dance and sing to victory...

Though I do not support of your ways, Snowy, you didn't have to state it like you did. It's nice to make sure you've got your facts straightened out before you lay them on the line.

If we are to die by 2012...Well...I don't care....The mayans can bring it. =D 'cause by that time.....Well...I dunno...But technology will probably have advanced so much by that period that we'll be able to stop it somehow.

Nuu has definately caught me amazed...I hadn't stopped to read those passages carefully, and you pointed out some smart things...True, the moon -does not- eminate light. Nor can the stars fall. Etc. etc. etc. And our sun won't blow up until a couple more million to billion years.....You can get concerned when it's bright red and has cracks all over the surface that you can actually see in a telescope...Meaning you won't burn out your retinas...Then you know something wrong.

There's about 3 descriptions of the anti-christ in the bible. The one I think'd be most plausible is that some guy pretends to be Jesus, everyone believes him, then he rules for 7 years, then Jesus comes. But that's still a load of poop, the truth is in my sig.
