QUOTE(T3h_Jake @ Jan 18 2007, 09:37 AM) {lang:macro__view_post}

The American Education System is most certainly not a joke, how would you like to be going to school in a place like Sudan where they don't even have a roof over their heads? The Governments only concern isn't the education system, if it was, there would be no war in Iraq right now.

The reason why African countries, like the Sudan, have school systems far worse than yours is because while the United States is first on the World Bank's list of countries by GDP, the Sudan is seventy first. Even in the Sudan teachers don't need to be armed to ensure that the pupils don't kill each other.

A lot of the founders were actually Deist, thinking god just made the universe, gave it laws, and left it alone to work on its own.

That isn't a Deist belief, where did you get that ide from? O.o

Well, that's what I learned in school, lol. Either way, it supports one of my claims.

I saw that on FOX news (Yes, we get it here too).

I'm sorry that we Americans gave that to you. sad.gif

As far as my American education goes, I don't think it has been too bad. Although, I'm sure some of you will refute that I'm educated. bluetongue.gif

I find it quite pathetic how so many seem to be judging America's school system (out of the Americans who've posted here at least) by how their school is alone. Sure, your school may suck, but that doesn't mean America's school system sucks. Schools can vary so much within a single county, and even moreso across a larger area like a state, that generalizations can't be fairly made regarding the school system if you judge by the quality of your school alone bluetongue.gif

That is actually one of our biggest problems. WHERE YOU GO TO SCHOOL DETERMINES HOW SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL BE. This sin't how things should be. Every school should be the same, so every student gets and equal education.

Communism is about economic equality. The right to an equal education is more of a social issue.

High-five for your radical left-wing beliefs! ^ .^

I must say, this should have its limits though. There should be the same level of education for people of different socioeconomic groups, but different levels of education for people who have more talent/put in more effort. That is to say, people who are mentally retarded and will grow up to be a bricklayer shouldn't get the same education as someone who has plans to become a quantum scientist.

It was a joke believe it or not.

But to respond, many children are sent to crappy public schools with low test scores because their parents can't afford to send them to that high-end private school with a ridiculously high tuition so they can get a better education. This is as much of an economic issue as it is a social one.

I was completely disregarding private schooling. I'm saying all public schools should be equal. Private school and college/university level schools don't count.

I have to agree with you here. People fight for more funding to mentally retarded students, but to be honest they aren't going to help society any. Why should we take money from the gifted students when they could use it the most? It's more of a natural selection issue.
