Games are supposed to be somewhere we can go and do what we like, but some people take it to far.

In games like GTA it gives us the freedom to act like a criminal, Final Fantasy games, gives us the freedom to travel different continents and help save wherever, Lord of the Rings gives us freedom to live the film.

You just get the occasional idiot who tries to take the games freedom and live it.

yeah, but through all this i think parents have all the control. Yes i lay games as gory as soldier of fortune, and games with string criminal influance like mafia, gtasa and gtavc. But there's no way my parents would let me get playboy, the guy game, leisure suit larrys. that kind of thing but i'm alot more stable than lets say..dhamon? yeah thats it! hehehe <---------------
Now i do know someone who was in the last sentance i just posted who became adicted to swg, ofcourse i was to. But still parents are what i belive it comes down to.

Hey, let's not turn this into a flamefest.

Dhamon, don't even dignify that with a response, and you will surely avoid an argument that could ruin this debate for all of us.

Okay, checkpoint in the debate.

Agreed (for the most part) points:
-Games are too easy to buy now
-There needs to be more enforcement of M-rated game buying
-The parents have control, and therefore can be blamed

Points not agreed on:
-Do violent games cause violence in real life?
-Are you messed up before or after the game?

So let's focus on those, making out debate a little cleaner by removing the stuff that has come to a close.

Games are easy to purchase? Not in New Zealand. If you want to buy any restricted game you have to have an ID, or parent with you. But, ratings are different in NZ for games than in the US. Theres G, PG, M, R13, R16, R18. Video games here are treated exactly the same as movies.

Still, people might start arguing about what you said, so lets just avoid that, k?

What I was trying to say (might have come out wrong, it was just an example) is that some parents dont care what their kids are doing. Or they might care, but they might not care what game their kid got...

Also, some parents dont check their kids games...I know quite a few people who got bad games and their parents still dont know about it. And yeah Obi, I know about checking the games at the register, but like I said, some parents just dont care about their kids as much as others.

Dude, we've busted each other on here before conf.gif anyway, yeah so emids can get games without there parents seeing them, but probably not kids that are to young. And i think MOSt parents know if there kiid is to imature to play some games, so would probably go with them.

lol u guys say video games like its the only thing affecting society

in tv there is the simpsons and family guy and those shows that can influence a person. the godfather made this kid get his dads tommy gun and actually went around shooting it. but no one was hurt.

internet has porn and much more freedom to say w.e u want and peopol send chain emails that force a kid to do something

music can make ppl commit suicide like Judas Priest was sued for subliminal messages that made a kid kill himself. some guy killed john lenon cuz he thot he was in impostor. dimebag darrel was shot to death just recently.

the only thing i heard about a crime that games caused was the sniper shooting but i think thats bs. they blame everything on games now a days...

theres also real life people who influence kids to do something like ppl making u smoke or try to get high. peer pressure.

it sickens me to see the government focusing on one type of media and not the major kind of media like the internet and movies especially

Movies are more realistic than video games, but they never get blamed for influencing people to kill.

Well no, we have said movies and tv contribute aswell. It's just kind of dumb to me to make a special "violent" section. I mean even games like Spiderman are banned.
