oh, how stupid i am. it just goes to show how certain kinds of stereotypes can still creep inside our heads.

the beggar was the man's sister; thus the man is the beggar's brother.

Hmm....im gfuessing the beggar and his man were monks, thus, they are not rerally brothers, well, not in blood, but in religion, many of you who know old christianic church monks enough would get what im doing.

Riddle #51
For our ambrosia we were blessed,
by Jupiter, with a sting of death.
Though our might, to some is jest,
we have quelled the dragon's breath.
Who are we?

ambrosia = honey.
so i guess you mean bees, because they also have stings.
i can only guess that the "dragon's fire" represents an inflammatory condition of the skin, and bee's stings are effective at treating inflamed areas. it pays to watch discovery channel sometimes.

Colored as a maiden tweaked,
time was naught when I began;

spain was the most dominant of the european countries in the time around the great armada

which alo explained how its power wained, because elizabeth I always defeated the armada everytime it came towards england....

Rome. everyone's heard of their glory in their early ages, when they were among the biggest and strongest empires in the world. however, through continuous barbarian attacks and uprisings over the years, Rome declined, until someone by the name of Charlemagne established the Holy Roman Empire.

Actually Rome works as well, but Krako answered first so... And the hint was for the original answer (Spain).

One thin, one bold,
one sick, one cold.
The earth we span,
to prey upon man.
Who are we?
