Yeah hey there Mr. Evans.
*cough*
MMP is the political system which New Zealand runs by ever since the country changed it's political voting system from First Past the Post. First Past the Post is the political system England uses and was used in New Zealand up until 1993."
MMP stands for Mixed Member Proportional. MMP is basically "cutting up and serving out different portions of a pie" as one lady on the radio described it on 17th September 2005 (Election Day). In Parliament there is generally 120 seats unlike First Past the Post which consists of 99 seats. For MMP to work, you need to vote two times - one for the electorate vote and one for the party vote. A party needs at least 5% of all party votes or at least 1 electorate seat to win a seat and be represented in Parliament.
MMP was set up by The Electoral Act of 1993 and elections are held once every three years.
*don't add this part in* I think that's all I can remember about MMP... Oh well good luck with your Research Assignment Callum.
Hey Mr. Evans! If you happen to check Callum's bibliography and see this site... HELLO! Guess who this is?
